cd45
OK, fixed the brakes today. Lesson #1: Get the book out. If nothing else, look at the pictures. I put the brakes from the 1987 wagon last weekend. I DID NOT look at the book at any time. I had NO brakes. I changed the master cylinder, still no brakes. Broke open all the bleed valves and let the fluid run out, refilled the resevoir 2 times, just to make sure all air was out of the system, and to get new fluid in. Removed all tires, and pulled the rear drums. They were there, and installed backwards. If any of you know drum brakes, you know the springs are out, and the adjuster is on the back side. I put them in wrong because I DID NOT look at the book. I pulled them apart, put them back together the right way, BY THE BOOK. Then I bled the whole system one wheel at a time, now the brakes are great. I can actually stop while driving. I also replaced the plugs, with NGK's, wires, with MSD 8.5mm, the distributer, and rotor. I also put an MSD Blaster 2 coil on it, because I like the way my wagon runs with it. I opened the gap on the plugs .010 more than stock because of the more powerful coil. If anyone knows if this is the wrong thing to do, please let me know. Now the problem seems to be the carb needs to be overhauled. I have no experience with Weber. I am hoping they are like other carbs. Again, if anyone has any experience, please let me know. After that, I will be replacing the rear bearings. With everything off on the back, you can grab the end of the CV shaft, and it moves around 1/2" in all directions. I might have to replace the CV shafts also. Again, if anyone had info on any of the stuff that I have posted about, don't be shy, I need all the help I can get. Thanks. GeneralDisorder
With everything off on the back, you can grab the end of the CV shaft, and it moves around 1/2" in all directions. I might have to replace the CV shafts also. That's normal - the hub anchors the outer bearing when it's together. Without the hub there's nothing holding the outer bearing to it's race. You don't need rear wheel bearings. GD
cobcob
Step 1. Pop the center cap off your new H style rim Step 2. Open your hood, remove the steel spare Step 3. Put new spare under the hood. Step 4. Stash your center cap in the glove box Weber overhaul? Check out Redline Weber's site for initial set up and here if you need a parts diagram
