any damage with broken timing belt?

my subi is a 94 loyale ea82. if I broke the timing belt, would I have any further damage or is it only replacing the timing belts?

When a timing belt breaks, none of the engine internals are harmed.

 

You may find however that the tensioner or idler bearings are seized and this caused your belt to snap. I suggest replacing all the bearings at the same time as both timing belts.

do yourself a favor and replace all timing belt parts. you dont want to have go back and do it a second time. learned that on my 78 civic.

and if you dont know when they were done last... while you are in there... change the water pump and reseal the front main and cam seals as well as the oil pump. Particularly the "mickey mouse" gasket. (thats what it looks like)

Aye aye. I didn't know about these when I did my belt and found out afterward this is where the biggest oil leak is... :mad:

If the car has 99,678 and the T-belts are factory from 1992. Will they just break for no reson? I'm afraid to really drive my car too much. Cuz if the belts break that will mess up the timing right?? Maybe i'm wrong?

rule of thumb is every 5 years or 70k or something like that, either way, your past it's service interval :-p you can visually inspect them while they are on the engine, if there are no frays and no visible cracks you'll be fine for a while

 

it wouldn't be bad though to start reading and learning about how to replace them and set the timing correctly, the usrm has a comprehensive guide.

Well i have everything! From oil pump seal/o-ring cam cap seal/o-ring and both T-belts... But i'm waiting for my dad to get some motovation to help me! And winter coming and man i'm stressed!!

Take a 10mm socket to the bolts holding the left and right belt covers on. I believe there's 4 in each. Do your best not to strip out the nut ends that are molded into the back covers.

 

Slide the covers off and you have a pretty good view.

 

You could probably do it without taking the fans out if you use a 1/4" drive or a wrench.

Oh! Ok i dident know that! well thats cool... I have new bolts for the front covers so thats good.. I think i'll just do the hole job then if i going to take off both sides covers... Thanks's for ansering me question!:grin:
