Anybody know what hose this is?

Featured Replies

Okay, i've exchanged about 3 different hoses with the dealer, they can't tell me what hose this is. I havent brought it in for them to look at because i don't want to pay for it, but i just want to be able to change out this broken hose.

Could anybody tell me what hose this is in the picture i've attached? i attached a second picture with a different angle for more reference.

I think the hose that it's coming out of comes out of the "Purge" nozzle on the canister, but need to double check. The hose i am trying to find out about is the one that "T"'s off of this hose.

Thanks!

What kind of car is it and where is that picture? I could look over my engine pictures, but I have no idea if that's even a Legacy. The pipe pictures alone look like it's part of the PCV system, but that's just me.

That soob has enhanced evap. I don't know what that hose is called; but I did copy this snippet from this endwrench.com article

"Remember, there are three hoses at the canister: one for Purge (usually the smallest in diameter), one for the Fuel Tank and one for the Drain to atmosphere after passing through the charcoal canister."

Also might want to check out this article: Evaporative Emissions System Theory I didn't see the hose 'names' in there, but it does have several diagrams that show the components and hoses.

Oops, sorry, should have provided details of the car! Completely forgot about that...

It's a 1996 Legacy L Wagon 2.2L. Charcoal canister is located in the back behind the passenger side back wheel just under the bumper.

I'll take a look at the articles linked and see if they give me any more clues.

What is the differnece between "Enhanced evap" and regular?

Take a look at that 'theory' article linked above; it tells all the details about the 'conventional' and 'enhanced' evap systems.

Thanks, i read that article. good information there.

Doesn't answer my question specifically, but i think it will help me get closer at least!

Just get a length of 5/8 heater core hose. You don't need the specific (expensive) hose from the dealer. If it's got really sharp bends then cut the bend you need from the old hose and use a few coupler's. There is no reason to spend money on an evap hose like that.

Looking at the pics.... might not be 5/8".... but whatever - just get the correct size fuel line or heater core hose - either are good generic replacements for that kind of thing.

any auto parts store. take in the busted hose, both pieces, and get the size that matches. make sure you get a long enough piece to make the bend with out kinking.
