November 3, 200718 yr When the turbo kicks in, on my 88, ea82t wagon, it sounds like someone put a playing card on a bicycle wheel. It has kind of gradually came on and gets louder everyday. Any ideas? How bad is this? I would really be happy if someone said "just tighten up that thingamajiggy and it'll be fine" and that was really true. ~ Myles ~
November 3, 200718 yr Sure just tighten up that thingy majiggy and you will be fine. Oh, and while your in there doin that, replace the turbo cause its shot :-p -Brian
November 3, 200718 yr yeah, dude...your turbo's gone. the bushing has worn so bad that the impeller and turbine are rubbing the housing as they turn...carving little pieces of metal off and throwing them into your intake. I would bet you're burning quite a bit of oil as well. if you don't replace it fairly soon, the loss of oil or metal being injested could cost you a motor as well. I don't mean to be just dumping bad news on you, just trying to save you a lot more trouble and expence later. (or sooner) ~Erik~
November 4, 200718 yr i have a bad turbo not for sale, its bad... but you can't have it cause im throwing it away...
November 4, 200718 yr Do a search for em on ebay, there will allways be a few on there. Seriously, this is bad new if its making this sound. Give us a dyno sheet when you put the new used one on
November 20, 200718 yr Author I'm still dealing with this turbo issue. I finally got this one from Rob but it has too much shaft play, so I'm back to square one! I haven't driven my car since you guys pointed out what should've been the obvious, to me. So if anyone has a good (affordable) turbo, let me know. Thanks ~Myles~
