ok, I have had time to look at this 84 wagon.

automatic with hitachi carb.

I am wondering what carb is best on this beast? from what I can see it has a liquid cooled intake manifold. Is it best to stick with the stock hitachi? It seems overcrowded with vacuum hoses etc....also since it's being an automatic currently do I have to consider anything special if I do decide a new different carb is in order for the ride?

fyi a friend has a water choked weber he wants me to put on it, but he asked for me to check on here if the auto tranny will affect it's functionality on this vehicle (aka vacuum issues or kickdown problems.)

I prefer simplicity and efficiency. I don't need power as much as reliability. What do you guys think?

get rid of the auto.that will make your entire life simpler.

the vacuum should be routed from the intake, not the carb itself.

and if it is it can be rerouted with a modulator on the intake

The auto will work fine with a Weber - as Mostaru said the vacuum for the modulator (which is on the side of the tranny) comes from the intake manifold, not from the carb.

yes I believe I am going to try this weber out. He put one his soob and he was able to eliminate tons of vacum line clutter. That is a nice aspect. I would like to keep the motor workings as simple as possible, less is more baby :)
