December 16, 200322 yr Anyone out there know if throttle cables from a different sube will work on my 84 Turbo Brat.It is starting to bind and I really dont want to have to deal with the IDIOTS at the local Sube dealer I'd like to get one from a salvage yard instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
December 16, 200322 yr cables from different soobs will all fit physically, although length is an issue between models one from an ea82 turbo SHOULD fit, having very similar throttle dimensions, and the ea81t has similar components of the ea82t any length will work if you can relocate/fab a mount for the cable
December 16, 200322 yr Length is the only difference and it seems to be unique to the ea81T vehicles. I plan on using one from a carb model as all the ones I ever find are frayed beyond a usable state. Save your old one though, I believe somebody here had ideas on how to thread new cable thru and crimp the end. Im still looking into that.
December 16, 200322 yr the one from my carter/weber was the longest with the throttle being on the othr side. i had to invent a mount for my ea82 hitachi and motor
December 16, 200322 yr Author Looks like I'll have to call the dealer and get bent over. We dont have any U-Pull it salvage yards out here anymore and none of the yards I called have what I'm looking for. I liked the idea of rethreading the old one though. Any idea where to get a new length of cable. I'd assume that I should use plastic coated cable for longevity? I cant believe with a thread title that sounds as boring as this one I got so many responses so quickly. This is without a doubt the best sight on the web. Thanks alot Miles and Shawn I'll let you know how everything goes.
December 16, 200322 yr the bike shop i work at has the solder on ends, and the cable, so maybe you could have someone rebuild yours. the cable sheath is plastic, so you could just get the shortest one ther is. i think its a ea81 hitachi. if there is not enough cable sticking out, you can cut the plastic sheath to make it fit. but maybe you could get lucky at a harley shop, or a dirt bike shop.
December 16, 200322 yr I think the bike shop cable is the best idea. Sub throttle cable doesn't look any beefier than a bike cable. Bill
December 16, 200322 yr A bike shop could probably make a cable to fit! i would think they could anyway. --GoatBoy--
