Spoiled Wagon...

Featured Replies

I've seen a few 95-99 generation Legacy wagons with a rear spoiler. I would have called it a visor, but I guess it is a spoiler. Anyway, I've never seen one listed on eBay and have not been able to find one in a local salvage yard. I think I'd like one on my 95 wagon. Were they only on LTD Outback wagons? Anybody know if it is indeed called a rear spoiler or a hatch spoiler or what???

My non-LTD Oh Bee has one also

I have heard it refered to as a

"wind deflector"

I think they were an option item.

Possibly dealer installed?

It is a wind deflector and is suppose to keep the rear window clearer by forcing the air across it while you are driveing, and they are factory and won't be found on Ebay or aftermarket.

I think this is the part you are talking about. It's 'spensive tho and primed only which means paint yourself to your color....salvage yard maybe http://www.car-part.com might be the way to go, might even find it already in your color!

SPOILER REAR KIT FOR 1995-1999 LEGACY OUTBACK WAGONS (comes primed only) Part No.: E7210AS001PR IS Fits Model: Outback Year(s): 1995-1999

Thanks Porc, I sit corrected I think.

The picture almost looks like it has an opening

in the center of it.

(like a trunk mounted normal spoiler would)

Mine has no such opening??

But YIKES 369 greenies!!

hey nice posting of the diagram! Hm good point, that does look open there. Not sure. My '00obw doesn't have one of those spoiler things nor does my '94....my '96 has something like that but it's just a piece of flat black metal:

Hm there's also this part:

REAR DUST DEFLECTOR KIT WITH INSTRUCTIONS & HDWR for 1996-1999 LEGACY OUTBACK WGNS Part No.: E7510AS001 Fits Model: Outback

Year(s): 1996-1999

That's only 69 greenies!

I have had/have the model on your maroon wagon

on several of my GL wagons.

The dust deflector looks even different.??

Thanks for the good job, you are my mentor.

(I like the first picture of your three wagons--

fine stable you have there)

Hm....interesting. Maybe the non-open deflector is not available as an add-on part. Time to check cars101.com. The three soob lineup wagons unite!

soobsback1-sm2.jpg

cars101.com typically shows for that era outback:

Rear Spoiler - wagon only $295. [i think the 'only' refers to the wagon, not the price  ].

Rear Dust deflector $115

My '97 has the deflector similar to the red Legacy above. I refinished it because I couldn't find the OEM type anywhere.

Thanks for the great feedback. Yeah, I want the spoiler and not the dust deflector. I appreciate having the name looked up and verified. I'll see if I can call some out-of-state salvage yards that have lots of foreign cars and see if I have any luck. I can't pay the OEM part price--wow!

I assume they are fiberglass or plastic?

I think they add a nice look to the wagons.

Hey hey yes wagons unite ftw! Round up the wagons! What is the purple one in the bottom pic? Is that an LSi?

I have a 98 Legy OBW Limited with the air deflector, and a 99 Legy OBW (non Limited) without it. The deflector must be part of the Limited package option. Having both cars, I don't see that it makes much difference. The tail gate glass on both my Subies seem to pick up the same amount of dirt.
