I wonder why subaru doesn't offer the 2.2L engine as a cheaper option to the 2.5L on all new cars? It would save them millions on warranty repairs alone.

the problem motor only last from 96-99 then they fixed the issue, sort of, the phase 2 had a different but similar problem

any body know when that was fixed, i dont know

i know the newer sti motor thats a 2.5 does not have the issue

Yes, but that would be admitting to a mistake.

For example, let's say you're Coca-Cola, and you introduce a new formulation for Coke, but many people don't like it.

Would you go back to making the old stuff...?

Uhh, never mind.

Sorry, guys I'd like to get back on topic.

Shame on me, I know

but

I promised.

I checked the orig. intake manifold for

the "T" that was mentioned.

Sure enough just as OB99W said it

connected to the FPR

(Fuel Pres. Regulator)

So I swapped the lines (the "T" fitting is NOT

on the line from the 95 EJ22 that I used).

The Map/baro sensor line connected,

used my scanner to erase the code,

started her up,

and

No Codes!!

I'll just take a minute to thank everyone involved!

Maybe we should mention this to other

EJ22 swappers.

Here is the best I could do when mounted

You're welcome, Skip; glad I could contribute to a successful effort

(and I'll try to stay more on-topic :) ).

So skip, you didn't notice any running differences with it unplugged like that? If it's an automatic, did it shift fine disconnected?

was that a minute? you already did!
Second, a thanks to Gary for mentioning the filter.

for real, no problem, that's great it was a simple fix.

, you didn't notice any running differences with it unplugged like that?
It seem to run just fine untill the inspection ran out

about 9 mo. ago.

(see below)

If it's an automatic, did it shift fine disconnected?
I'm sorry, Gary.

This question is very hard to answer

and does not really belong in this topic as

the tranny has a bad drive gear for VSS#2.

It is therefore in a "limp mode".

No VSS => CEL after so many drive cycles.

Readiness monitors are still not set,

so no

sticker for me in Pee Aye.

Again off topic, I am working on a

phool the pooter phix

and will report in it's own post.

Thanks once again for all the help.

I hope this entire debacle helps

Jules and some one else with

the MAP/Baro sensor ordeal.

Readiness monitors are still not set, so no sticker for me in Pee Aye.
Seriously? My '96 2.2l is exempted from that test in NY at least since '96 soobs reset all the I/M's to not ready or not tested every time turned off?
