December 19, 200322 yr Well did it today , picked up an 80 hatch 1600 4wd with 111K original miles with a EA81 swap and dual 4WD swap. It has been sitting for a while and might have a small oil leak somewhere, but defintiely needs chaninging. It made it home though, suggestions on anything I might be sure to check out for any little quirks sounds or what have you. I am new to subies so any info will be most helpful
December 19, 200322 yr congrats on the new ride. nice rig. drive it a bit to see what noises and quirks it has, and i'm sure one of the many knowledgable folks on here will be able to help you out. cheers
December 19, 200322 yr That looks like Lewy!! Did you find it on 277th? If so, that's Corky's(Dr RX) old Hatch.
December 19, 200322 yr Author Yep I guess so, thats kinda good unless its a piece of crap and that why he got rid of it.
December 19, 200322 yr No, it wasn't actually. His wife made him decide over projects. He chose the EA82 Turbo sedan over it. He did the 1600 to 1800 swap. You should contact him for the history.
December 19, 200322 yr Some kinda small world. Cool, it's back in the family. Maybe now it will finally get that lift I've been wishing it had.
December 19, 200322 yr Author sorry I didnt get your hatch zap but this was a little more price friendly to me , even though I yearn for a lifted hatch. But I want this one to run well first.
December 19, 200322 yr Hey congrats on your new purches if thats corkys (Dr RX) old wagon then you got a pretty good wagon because I know corky takes good care of his babies (Subarus) so good luck and may many subar adventures find you just ask around and im sure people will agree with me that corky took good care of his cars and knows much as in subar smart about subarus. later and again congratulations.
December 19, 200322 yr Author It is Lewy checked out Dr RX's site and its him, its funny I asked him one time If he was selling any car and never looked at the old pictures of Lewy.
December 19, 200322 yr congrats but you need to change out all the oils in the car. that would be the first thing i would do. when i got mine i drop the gear oil in the tranny and it was bad. same with rear end. just get some gear oil and some lucas. that stuff works magic. there is lucas for your motor oil and tranny. the tranny lucas will also work in your diff. then genral maintance stuff like spark plugs, cap, rotor, if you really want to get into it drain your gas and see if you have any trash in the tank. change the fuel filters. etc. its a fun car to work on cause its the few import that have room under the hood. good luck on your ride
December 19, 200322 yr You didn't buy it from Corky. He sold it some time ago. That buyer/owner got laid off from Boeing I believe.
December 20, 200322 yr Nope, the D/R 4 speed was stock, I only installed the EA81. I'll get in touch with you when I get back from Oregon, we can talk about the car then. I think I still have some of the stuff I was going to up date Lewy was before I sold it. It was really hard to sell Lewy, I wish the wife would have let me keep it as well as the turbo. Lewy was a great little car while I had it. Hey Ryer-s, I would do the brakes before you put the EJ20 into it, if not you may not live to enjoy all that power.
December 20, 200322 yr You are the fourth owner of Lewy, I was the second. I bought it from the daughter one the original owner, he was getting old and started to drive by feel, you'll notice a few places where there are small bumps in the body panels. Did you get the orginal documents from the former owner?? I'm sure that I gave them to him.
December 20, 200322 yr Author the only documents he gave me was the title he said thats all he had, Its running like a terd at the moment and I think theres a oil leak somewhere.
December 20, 200322 yr I know for a fact that it has been sitting for a while. It may just have bad gas in it. Also pop the distributor cap and check for moisture. I know it was on 277th for at least 4-6 months.
December 20, 200322 yr Unless you need it for transportation, can you wait until I get back from Oregon, I should be back in the afernoon of the 23rd. I realize it is a holiday, so we may not be able together until the 26th or later. I'll help you get my old buddy back into shape. It sound like it needs a seal job, a lot easier on an EA81 then on an EA82. You might try putting a couple of cans of gas drier (turns the water into an alcohol mixture so it will burn). There is also an electrical drier that sprays on and evaporates quick, you might try that in the distributor, and all the electrical connections. I'll see if I can get ahold of the guy I sould it to and see if he still has the documentation that I gave him.
December 20, 200322 yr Author I can wait till you get back its no problem, Lewy just looks sad sitting in the driveway. I put new gas in it when I drove home but It probably does have some crap in it. I'll pm you my number and you can give me a call when you get back.
December 23, 200322 yr OK, I'm back, I don't know if you are working or not so I'll call you tonight.
