February 25, 200818 yr The tranny in the Brat went out. I plan to install at least a 4 Sp D/R in it but, that will be a little while. Does anyone think it might be worth my time to change out th tranny filter? A friend of mine told me that was the problem with his when it went out. I found the filter and pan gasket on RockAuto for $6. Would it be worth the time, or just wait until I get the manual tranny? Thanks guys.
February 25, 200818 yr they are just a fine mesh screen you could pull the pan and look at it Might get lucky??

Does anyone think it might be worth my time to change out th tranny filter? No. The filter is a mesh screen. I can't imagine it could clog enough to make the trans not function. If you're not ready to do you're D/R swap, just grab another 3at from a GL or Loyale at the Junkyard. You may need to swap rear diffs if the ratios don't match.
February 25, 200818 yr Author I am doing this just so I can drive it for a while before the D/R swap. I am doing the swap, just thought I might get to drive it more than I did.
February 25, 200818 yr doubtful that will help. like they already mentioned "filter" is the wrong name for it, it's just a screen and i've yet to see one that even had a hint of dirt on it.
February 25, 200818 yr is your fluid dark, i think you would find out alot if you drop the pan. look for shavings either steel or bronze or copper flake. the dark fluid is from worn friction material, any shavinngs are from hard parts, either one isnt good
February 25, 200818 yr Yeah, agreed the filter don't do much. I had to rebuild half of my transmission, and 3AT parts are EXPENSIVE. Then I find a manual donor wagon after I spent all the money already
