EA81 headrest removal IS possible!

Featured Replies

I'm trying to remove them to put on some awesome NOS vintage seatcovers i've been waiting for the right car to put them on. Before i hack up the covers, is it even possible to remove the headrest for seatcover installation?

What type of EA81 seat?

I assume you mean the style with the adjustable head rests?

Push the release button and pull them out.

They are indeed adjustable but i am seeing no button to release the rest.

Same button used to adjust them. Just pull straight up till they come off.

Checked for any signs of a button, nada.

Adjustment is made by pulling the actual headrest straight up.

It is either all the way up or down, there are no notches in the bars etc. to hold it in any particular position.

Hhhhmmmm. I seem to remember them having a release slider. But perhaps not all of them did. You might have to just pull harder.

I tried the same thing about a week ago. If you don't have a release button, the only way to really detach them is to take the cover off, then reach in and undo the pin and stuff that holds them in there. I took the easy way out since all i needed from the seats were the covers - a sawzall zzz

Problem solved!

Right on the money. From the lowest position, you have to pull it as hard as you can, as if you were expecting it to come out. I pulled a little too hard and fell backwards when it came out, but the second one wasn't as awkward.

Ah yes - now that I see the pics I see your's are 80-82 seats. That would explain it. 83+ have the notches and the release button.

Glad you got it fixed, and I like the seat covers - wish I could find some like that for my hatch.

Those are 84 seats. I see you changed out the steering wheel already!!! lol

Those covers go great with the tan interior. It is about time for me to invest in some new covers for my BRAT seats as well.
