So I went and looked at a 92 Loyale Sedan lastnight. It looked ok so I called

him back today and settled on a price. The body is in good condition and

the interior looks good also. The only down side is the engine leaks oil...and its a auto, front wheel drive. Supposed to have around 116,000 miles.

I have parts at home that I can swap from my 4wd 5 speed dual range wagon, so I would guess that its time to strip the wagon.

Anyways, Ill try to add some pictures tonight or tomorrow.

That just means it has oil in it, it's a Subaru, if it's not leaking oil, it's out.

Is that the one that was on Craigslist, out in Glendale? I called about it a couple weeks ago, but couldn't get them to call me back.

Yup its the one from Craigslist/Glendale...and when they said oil leak they really meant it. I got it home just a few minutes ago. the oil is really flowing out of the passenger rear of the oil pan. They had it way overfilled on oil trying to compensate for the leak. Ill probally try to reseal the oil pan this weekend and replace the valve cover gaskets. However the interior is really good and the body looks to only have minor dings. Its a california/arizona car so rust really isnt a problem. I ended up getting it for $250 so I dont thing I got too hosed. If all else fails Ill just say screw it and put my ej25 in it that I have in the garage.

oh and my dog already misses the rear hatch...(of my 86 wagon)

If the oil pan has a hole in it, I think I've got one in the garage you can have.

Thanks AZ. Im planning on taking it off tonight after work. Also, when I say that it was overfilled, the level was most of the way up the dipstick. Its amazing that this thing even ran.

Ok, pulled the oil pan. The pan wasnt sealed to the case, it basically fell off

once I pulled the bolts. Also it looks like there was about 8qts of oil in the engine.

Well, I sealed the Oil pan up seamlessly and it didnt fix it... Jonathan will get mad at me if I tell you guys the specifics... he wants all the glory

Ok, so the oil leak ended up being the passenger side headgasket... right next to the oilpan. Beataru and I pulled the engine and replaced both headgaskets, rear main, cam seals, and most other seals along the way. It also gave us the chance to really clean off all of the crap that has been leaking for who know how long.

I checked the torque on the heads before removing them, they had about 25lb pounds. Also they used the cheapest gaskets you can buy on ebay.

A few searches later, I installed felpro as per the board.

Ive been driving it for about 30 miles now and have to ask a question. The engine will not rev over 5200rpm. It acts like a rev limiter. If I put it in neutral and floor it, it will hit 5200 and then fall back to about 3500, over and over.

I dont have a timing light here at home so Im going to get it dead nuts on tomorrow at work.

Any ideas?

At least Im only about $350 into this thing and it runs really well(for the most part) Heck, Im driving it into northern Arizona this weekend to go fishing.

I would say its the timing. Make sure you plug the green test connectors together before setting the timing. I sometimes forget and have to redo it.

They should be under the steering column.

 

And there could be a possibility of a clogged cat.
