March 23, 200818 yr alright guys......ive got a 1996 subaru legacy L EJ22 with a 5 Spd.........i could be mistaken but i thought that the MAP sensor and pressure exchange solenoid only came on the automatics and turbocharged models?.....i have a 5 spd non turbo and i have both of them mounted on the passanger side shock tower........what am i missing here......its the origonal engine and trans so nothing was taken off or swapped or anything...........
March 23, 200818 yr Your mistaken. Every car engine with OBD II (and OBD I)has some sort of MAP sensor set up, either like subarus, or a combintaion sensor. How else does the car know its alitiude, it can't look over a cliff nipper
March 23, 200818 yr Author ok....i see.......i have heard that some manufacturers only use the map sensor for diagnostic purposes.....is this what they are referring to...altitude......thanks for clearing that up for me nipper ( i guess the haynes manual is wrong than)
March 23, 200818 yr MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure. SUbaru just cheats (rather brilliantly) and uses it for both the manifold pressure (vacume) and atmospheric pressure. nipper

March 23, 200818 yr ok, i check the hoses and they are good, from the map there are 2 lines a short 1 and and long one, could these be crossed, going to another sensor,
March 24, 200818 yr Author i thought at one time i priced a new MAP sensor for my 96' legacy and it came up to like $350 from NAPA.....i could def. see why you would get a used one.....
March 24, 200818 yr would this really affect mpg ? it's the only code left Yes, it tells the computer how much load the engine is under. The higher the load (lets say going up a hill or passing) the lower the vaccum. Its very imporatnt. nipper
