stumped... new ea82 overheats

Featured Replies

Timing is on radiator swapped full of coolant. Both fans work. Even pulled the thermostat.

Im stumped please help its a new engine

Please help us help you with more information!!

"New" would imply that it just came over on a boat from japan in a sealed crate. If this is the case dont take it apart lol.

Yeah, these things are bad with air in the system. Park it up hill, fill it up, burp all the coolant lines you can and keep adding coolant as it goes down. When you can't get anymore air out of it by hand, then start the car with the rad. cap off and run it till no more air bubbles out. Try and run it till the thermostat opens (you should definately put that back in), and keep topping off the coolant. When no more air comes out, replace the rad. cap, and fill the overflow to the appropriate level. Then you shouldn't have anymore problems...if air in the system was the problem :)

New as in freshly rebuilt. No more then 600 miles on it. I've been rallyin it so its had lots of bumpin up and down and hill climbs. I've been toppin it of ill do the hill trick tho. It will over heat just driving down the road

Not sure if I am understanding you right or not. Is your radiator fins free of obstructions since you have been rallying it? And are you 100% sure your fans are working?

Does the needle make a slow climb to the red or is it suddenly jumping? If it's suddenly jumping then there's probably air in the system. If it's slowly climbing then either your rad is clogged or a hose is callapsing.

Check your engine grounds too.. My gauge would show overheating when I did things like turn on the headlights, blower fan, etc. I installed a big ground cable right by the thermostat housing and it solved it.

I still think you probably have air in the system. My car did the same thing for a while, they need to be bled, or they will keep overheating. Put your thermostat back in, fill it up, bleed the air out, and you should be good to go.

Ill do that in a few minutes im gonna put my original radiator back in.

bleeding air out of subarus is somewhat tricky, especially having to wait till the right moment the thermostat opens and being there whenit does that.

hold the revs up and squeeze the hoses, watch this video:

Both fans work.

Do you have 2 electric fans?

What is the condition of the water pump? Any problem with the accessory belts?

Swapped a rad outta a 91 and blead the system now it runs right. Now... im poppin rear axels... I just pop'd one driftin a dirt road corner. 4 inch lift.. I think the diff isn't dropped enough. I think it needs another inch on the drop.
