Can I direct you to the vendors forum?

This is the New Gen forum, for people who need help or want to show off something they've done. Not the forum for selling stuff, esp. under titles meant to sucker people into looking.

PS, there isn't a lot of STI owners around here. We buy whole cars for the price of a set of camshafts.

Backseat mod much?

i think they are lighter there for giving you less weight to be moving around.

I seem to have been doing more of it recently. Do you have a problem with me calling out someone blatantly whoring their product in the wrong forum? Especially when they have

Occupation:

Cam PIMP

In their profile?

What's the point of having the market place if you can sell whatever you want in the general forums.

If I'm acting like a cranky jerk, it probably has something to do with me pulling my back working on a hyundai this afternoon and then driving home on some of the worst washboard roads you could imagine.

Backseat mod much?

I feel the same way, theres a reason we got a vendor forum. I came in here looking for an interesting article and all i got was a crappy ad for cams....

So are we talking about carbonitriding? Essentially hardening the valves?

Do you get the valve seats done in that price?

(Edited to be less aggressive)

seats are not coated, working on cutting different angles to maximize flow qualities. Looking like the 20' cut seems to be flowing the best so far.

I also changed listing heading as was excited bout finding a combo deal for these STI's .... Will work on my verbage as we go along ;)

$1000

Actually Brian, that is affordable horsepower. But then are you happy with your 150 BHP? I have seen over 500whp STi's that are just flat nuts. Cams give them the option of even more power at the bottom end where turbo's fail.

Can I direct you to the little triangle shaped box with the exclamation point in it? If you have a problem with a post use that to alert mods and admins. That would be our jobs! And we are more than happy to deal with that so you can go about surfing the website.

You might be surprised how many STi lurkers we have. We don't all buy old EA's.

Glad you decided to edit...

He wasn't advertising so much as letting the new gen know. There will be many articles to come. Jon gets very excited about his products. I wish more vendors of performance parts(for all Subarus) were this passionate about their jobs and products.

Now, thanks to McBrat, it is in the vendor forum and you guys can go about your business.

Do me a favor and edit out all the b.s. if you can, since this is now in the apropriate forum.

I made the remarks I made because it was in the other forum which is more appropriate for conversation...

p.s.

Affordable horsepower to me would be like a $60 boost controller or a $40 crank pulley... $1000 cams are definatly horsepower, cant argue that... but affordable on the other hand.

amen for that, not many guys would trade beer money and some stickers to be ran on my car for a regrind.

A+++++ for Jon and the work he does!!!!!! Wish there was more businesses out there like that, well at least more in the subaru world.

yeah but to a guy that can drop major scratch for a STI then have the money to make mega power 1000 bucks would be a drop in the bucket. it just shocks us because thats more then we pay for most our cars.

Here's the equation so some may better understand.

$40k for a STi. Add $30K in mods for Bigger turbo, bullet proof bottom end and forged internals, meth injection, etc. $1K for head and turbo work. Oh yeah that is hella affordable.

The difference between old HP and new HP is night and day. A boost controller is cheap. But beefing up the motor so it doesn't detonate isn't. I can direct you to many who have tried to build cheap hp for the old EA's. It just doesn't work without dealing with the whole package.

I'm not tryng to beat anyone up or belittle anyone either. It is just a different ball game when dealing with big power.

Big ups to McBrat for sticking this in its place. Im curious about these cam things y'all are talking about. Delta - you have a pm

Hope I have enlightened you ;) since COBB tuning has slowed their head and camshaft division of their company we have been overwhelmed with requests for service. Hope to secure a new building to accomidate or service requests, and bring our custom head shop in under the same roof.

will be doing a set of performance heads for the 3.3ltr SVX soon and will have pics and spec posted soon as we get them. THE SHOWS ABOUT TO BEGIN

Engine is re assemblied and will be tuned shortly by Mr. Tim Bailey I believe.

Can't wait to see the results from a cam and valve swap, looking for some stronger torque, and more H.P. :headbang:

WOW. One word. Dont. Go to a junkyard. get a transmission for 100 bucks or so. Bring it to a transmission shop and have them go through it. Then install it yourself. Its not that hard...and you save 4700 bucks probably.

Well this is what we came up with from our tuning session, The cam & valve package out performed the stock turbo and injectors ! After talking with Mr. Tim Bailey from Surgeline, and taking a half hour verbal crash course in tuning, hats off to his knowledge ! He informed me from the results that the camshafts were still creating torque and H.P. all the way to redline, but the turbo and injectors could not keep up for more power.

We are pleased with the results for cams and valves only!

Pre results 304 WHP 334 ft. lbs torque

Post results 324 whp 348 ft. lbs torque

Kit costs $600.00 regrind cams and stainless valves

$30.00 per HP gained $43.00 per ft lb gained. Not to bad !
