April 23, 200817 yr Ive been getting this problem on and off for the last few months and it really bothers me. My throttle linkage is binding really badly these days. I think its binding right between the carb body and the linkage. Is there a good solution to this other than getting the stock hitachi cable guide and adding another return spring?
April 23, 200817 yr Author do they make something like this that would be very very small to use to reduce the friction? some tiny bearings. http://cgi.ebay.com/8-ABEC-7-Speed-Racing-Skateboard-Axle-Ball-Bearings-Set_W0QQitemZ150233265933QQihZ005QQcategoryZ36624QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247
April 23, 200817 yr Mine also binds when the engine gets good and hot during long trips. Doesn't stick on, but gets hard to accelerate smoothly. There's someone on here who sells bearing kits for the throttle shaft. Can't remember their user name, but look in the Vendor forum and there's a post about it there. Adding too much return spring tension is hard on the main shaft bushings/bearings, so it's better to fix the problem instead of just adding more tension. Andy
April 23, 200817 yr Author Yea thats big Jim. I actually bought my weber through him. Real nice guy to deal with. I was thinking about that as well and may just do that even though this is a brand new carburator and shouldnt need it.
April 28, 200817 yr Author Anyone got some suggestions or am i looking at putting roller bearing on the throttle shafts?
April 29, 200817 yr I found the end of the oem cable attaching to the hitachi bracket on my weber was rubbing on the fast idle linkage (or whatever it is, in that spot)until I ground it down. I didn't think it was the problem until I had someone else on the petal while I looked.
April 29, 200817 yr loosen your throttle shaft nut ever so slightly. Anyone got some suggestions or am i looking at putting roller bearing on the throttle shafts?
April 29, 200817 yr Author The throttle shaft nut is on hand tight and i still have binding issues. As for the hitachi throttle cable holder thingy (not sure the name) im not using it. Im using whatever cable holder came with the weber new. I dont see any binding between the cable end and the throttle but ill look again later.
April 29, 200817 yr Author Took the linkage all apart, cleaned it, put it back together. It still binds . I made a call to bigjim and bought his roller bearing throttle shaft repair kit. My carb may be relatively new but it already has a bit of play in the main shaft to the point i could feel the idle pick up if i put a bit of downward pressure on the shaft. Stupid plastic bushings.
April 30, 200817 yr i had so moany issues with this ;i was cannabalizing other webers for the bushings.that roller bearing sounds like the ticket.cheers, brian
May 5, 200817 yr Author Took it apart today. Replaced the AWEFUL plastic bushings with the roller bearings. SOO much better. No binding now. Smooth throttle. A++
May 5, 200817 yr Hey Hatchsub, is it pretty straightforward to replace the bushings or do you have to mess with resetting the throttle plates, etc.---Brian
May 5, 200817 yr Author You have to take the primary throttle plate out but its pretty straightforward in putting it back in. Mine still had dirt lines from where it was before so i just didnt clean it till i bolted it back in.
