Here is a quick question:

Does the spider intake manifold that comes on the MPFI XT have an EGR? If it doesn't have an EGR then how can it be smog legal in California?

I think it depends on where the car came from. Someone recently posted info and pics that said the N/A spider had an EGR and the Turbo spider did not. However, just last week I was confronted with a Turbo Sider that did have an EGR....

 

And to confuse matters, my last turbo was a california car and it did not have an EGR. XSNRG still has the manifold.. no EGR on the manifold, I am still using the engine.. no place for an EGR pipe on the head.

 

I think the CA cars had a little different computer setup or something.

My N/A spider intake has no EGR, and it's not a CA model.

 

I've never seen a spider intake with an EGR. I've only seen 3 or 4, and they were all N/A, but none had one.

 

Maybe it has something to do with model year? Mine is an '89.

Neither does my N/A spider have an EGR. I think a spider intake is a spider intake, so if the turbo one doesn't have it, the N/A won't either...

 

The BC-BF Legacies don't have EGR valves either, and they pass emissions without problem. I would be willing to say the cat does a more complete job of killing noxious fumes on these models.

well we have a spider XT Turbo intake with a very obvious EGR on it.

This does make sense, the purpose of the introduction of exhaust gas into the intake is to lower the combustion chamber temp, thus reducing oxides of Nitrogen.

The turbo needs any help it can get in lowering the comb. chamber temp, this in an effort to reduce pre-ignition and detonation.

Thanks for all the info. I have also been thinking about doing the swap, but I wanted to make sure that my car would still pass smog in California. I have seen them check my EGR everytime I took it in for smog.
