1996 Legacy outback ej25. Automatic tranny. clicking noise when shifting from Park into DRIVE/REVERSE. is this a symptom of a dying transmission? ( i sure hope not) please help me with this problem, i just want to be ahead of the game if it is going to need a major repair. thank you!:headbang:

i'll bet it clicks when you push in the button on the shifter just before you shif. this is standard.

no it is an actual clunk/click from the front end.

 

I believe a worn C.V. joint or transmission mount can produce your symptoms.

i know you say the front end is were you hear the noise.....but you can also get a clunk from bad u joints when you change gears in an automatic........my father had it very bad on his c3 corvette.....

That can be u joints, CV joints, Tranny mount, Ball joints or various other front end parts.

 

Time to inspect the car.

 

 

BTW your tranny is fine.
