May 18, 200817 yr I am looking at an engine swap in a 1986 EA82 GL wagon. It has a non turbo EA82 carburated engine. JDM EA82 turbo engines with multi port fuel enjection and 40,000 to 60,000 miles on them can be had for $325 dollars. I was wondering if there would be any major wiring headaches or gas tank swap required going to this multi port setup? How reliable are these multi port turbo EA82. I see the write up for the carb to SPFI swap. Any information appreciated. Thanks.
May 18, 200817 yr I suggest a search here on the EA82T engine. Depending upon the maintenace of the used engine, you could be in for alot of headaches. Besides that, the swap issues would be mainly the wiring. You will need the complete engine harness and ECU. The knock sensor unit, engine x-member. Theres been alot of discussion of it here.
May 18, 200817 yr You would need a donor car. Engine alone is maybe 1/2 of the stuff you need for a swap like that. The EA82T is not a good engine choice - only 115 HP, and not much room for improvement. Do a search. GD
