I have a 2000 Outback with 165,000. I just changed the oil on Saturday with Valvoline Maxlife FULL synthetic and a bottle of the new Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Can I go 5,000 miles easily before changing oil? Is it safe?

Yes, I would think so.

I go 15,000 miles on synthy oil with a filter change and top off every 5,000 miles. Your wasting money if you change it out every 5000 miles, might as well go with dino oil at that rate.

Assuming you're using a high-quality oil filter, 5,000 miles may be overly conservative. It's somewhat dependent on driving conditions -- length of trips, speed, ambient temperatures, etc., all play a part in determining what's a reasonable interval.
