June 19, 200817 yr So I have a set of STi 550cc injectors and I know that they will fit the fuel rail on a EJ18. So I looked at both injectors side by side and the basic difference between the two is that the 550cc injectors have bigger holes for the fuel to come out of. (duh) IIRC the EJ18 injectors are 280cc or so. So... if you get a set of EJ18 injectors, go to Harborfreight and get a set of those micro drill bits or a really fine diamond bit and hone out the holes, you can make 550 injectors or whatever size you want. I have a spare set of injectors and I just found an person who can get injectors cleaned and tested for free. I will take said drill bits and enlarge each injector with a different bit. Will log what bit I used and get them all tested for flow. Once I get the complete data, will post it on the USRM. BW

Some people on NASIOC have done it. You can also just cut the cap on the bottom off all together. Cutting the cap off the blue WRX top feeds makes them 820cc. I think when you cut the cap off STi side feeds they end up around 1000cc's. This is all that the aftermarket injector companies do anyway, why pay them big bucks? When I get a bigger turbo for my WRX I am going to cut my injectors. You do need a way to tune for the injectors, like Rom Raider and a tactrix cable. You'll also need a bigger fuel pump like a walbro.
June 21, 200817 yr Is this also possible on the EA82 injectors? If so, that would be a very cheap and easy injector upgrade for the turbo people..
June 24, 200817 yr Cutting the caps off fuel injectors will wreak havoc on the spray patterns and fuel atomization. I would save up for the engineered aftermarket injectors if you actually need anything bigger than the STi OEM units.
June 25, 200817 yr Is this also possible on the EA82 injectors? If so, that would be a very cheap and easy injector upgrade for the turbo people.. Injectors from a 260Z Nissan are quite an upgrade for the EA82T. John
June 26, 200817 yr Injectors from a 260Z Nissan are quite an upgrade for the EA82T. John There has been some debate about this, since the nissan and subaru run at different fuel pressures. Besides that, it's near impossible or damn expensive for me to get those nissan injectors. So if I could modify the ea82t injectors, that would be nice.
June 26, 200817 yr I just happen to have a set of six from my old turbo days. edit: Look at this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-Turbo-Fuel-Injectors-BENZ_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33554QQihZ009QQitemZ190231308762QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
June 27, 200817 yr according to the bosch part number in that ebay ad, the mercedes benz 4,5 liter V8 from the 1970's uses the same injector. Also the Volvo 140,164 and 1800 use the same injector. Strange, as those cars are all way older than the subarus we're dealing with :-\ Also, that bosch part number doesn't seem to be pointing towards Datsuns/Nissans. edit: Some further searching shows that the CA18DET uses the same injectors. Since this is a very popular engine to mod, there are tons of aftermarket injectors available. The stock ones are 370cc and good for up to 180hp (stock CA18DET is already 170hp). Mitsubishi DSM injectors seems like a popular and cheap upgrade for them, so they should also fit in the EA82T (WJM has already mentioned this a long time ago)
November 13, 201411 yr Is upgrading the injectors a longevity mod or a performance mod??? I cant figure out what makes the engine run lean from these threads. Performance mods? or Age? I feel like there is a lot of monkey see monkey do on this forum with out scientific justification. Who needs upgraded injectors? How are shorter injection times generated?
November 15, 201411 yr Who needs upgraded injectors? How are shorter injection times generated? The only people that need to "upgrade" their injectors are those that have exceeded the hp capability of their current motor and need more fuel. When you have a 200 hp turbo'd 4 cyl. and upgrade to a 400 hp capable turbo, the stock injectors won't cut it, so you'll need an upgrade and also a higher flow fuel pump.
