June 23, 200817 yr how hard is it to change the oil pump gasket car still has good oil pressure... 25 at idle and 50 at cruise. also the pan gasket is leaking to how hard is that to change i notice there are a few bolts on the back of the pan covered by the crossmember. does this require unbolting the motor mounts and jacking it up?
June 23, 200817 yr Really easy. Oil pan on the other hand...I'd imagine you'd have to jack the engine up a little, with the mounts unbolted.
June 23, 200817 yr Ive done an oilpan gasket on an EA81 without pulling or jacking up the engine. It wasnt fun but it was doable. Subaru was nice and drilled holes in the crossmember just big enough to get a socket and extention through to the back few bolts that hold the pan on.
June 24, 200817 yr EA81 oil pans have no baffle plates like EA82's. There is no need to jack up the engine. It's actually quite easy. I use a large phillips screwdriver for the back bolts. They come out easily. GD
June 25, 200817 yr EA81 oil pans have no baffle plates like EA82's. GD That's good to know, I've only done EA82s. On a side note, can the pans swap out? If not, is there a benefit to adding baffles for high angle applications?
