83 DL, Blower inop.

Featured Replies

Did some searching, i have a pretty good handle on what i need to do, figured i would post up in case someone has a better idea.

Gripe: Heater / Vent inop, no air comes from the vents, no matter what i do. Nor is there any "blower" sound, ruling out the chance that it is obstructed or the vents are just stuck shut (or something).

Checked the fuse, it's good.

Plan: inspect the motor (once i locate it), i figure it looks just like every other blower motor on the face of the earth, black roundish, made of plastic.

Attempt to run 12v through the motor at the connections, if motor fires up, i then cry, and start ripping my dash apart. if the motor does not fire up, i then cry and start to try to find one of these things (are they rare? interchangeable? What am i looking at here, i saw one quote for something like 50 bucks which is not bad at all, but it was for another year).

After that it's just good old fassioned wire chasing, i do this as a job on aircraft, but cars are so much more of a pain in the rump roast.

Like i said, i got a fairly good handle on this, i think.. I just wanted to see if anyone else has some gouge that i may not know.

Appreciated,

Erik

Could be the switch or the resistor block. But put 12v to the motor first. It's just a blower motor - lots of 12v DC motors will fit or interchange. Not particularly rare.

appreciate it!

I have an 81 GL wagon. The blower motor does not operate at any selected speed. I checked the fuse and it is good so I checked for voltage across the fuse. I have no voltage!

Any ideas? Blower relay? Where is it located?

Resistor Block? Would all speeds be inoperative if this was the culprit?

Regards, Gary

No - the block is bypassed for the highest setting.

Sounds like the relay or the switch if you have no power at the fuse.

The fuse should be the first thing in line, before the relay, switch, resistors, or motor. There may be another fuse in the engine compartment that is bad.
