June 28, 200817 yr how do i tell if it's a hydro block or a solid lifter block..... i assume loose valves can lead to some gas milage loss but im unsure if i have a hydro or solid lifter block do i need to check the vin but then i dont know if the engine had ever been replaced im lost anyone wanna shed some light on this situation?
June 28, 200817 yr The Hydro engines are supposed to have a gold sticker on the valve covers that say do not adjust valves or something. But I think After a certain year they stopped because my 89 hatch does not have these stickers.
June 28, 200817 yr Remove the valve cover and look at the push-rod. If it's solid steel they are hydro. If it's aluminium with a steel cap they are solid. GD
June 28, 200817 yr Don't pay attention to the rockers either, my 89 has the adjusters on them. That could easily throw someone off.
June 28, 200817 yr Don't pay attention to the rockers either, my 89 has the adjusters on them. That could easily throw someone off. All the hydro's have the adjusters. There is a procedure for adjusting them too. You have to look at the push-rods. GD
June 28, 200817 yr Yup, that's why I said don't pay attention to them. I've read posts here before where people have adjusted the hydro motors thinking they were service adjustable, and screwed them all up.

OK' date=' don't get mad if this is a dumb ??? Is this the Motor in you're 91 Loyale we're talking about? If it is, you have an [b']EA82[/b], not an EA81. All EA82s have hydraulic adjusters. And timing belts. To solve you're ticking you have a few sets of options: 1. Run a half Quart of ATF in you're engine oil for about 100-300 miles till the ticking subsides. This is ussually only a temporary solution. Ticking may come back. 2. Replace oil pump seals to raise pressure and eliminate bubbles in the oil. 3. If those 2 things don't solve it, you need new Lash adjusters. Search MIZPAH and you will find a company that rebuilds them cheap. Good luck.
June 28, 200817 yr Author im talking about my 1983 brat i do have a 91 Loyale, 87 RX and a 02 WRX tho and neither of the EA82 have the TOD
June 28, 200817 yr Yeah - you should always mention what car you are talking about unless people know that you know what you are asking about. I knew because I remembered your other EA81 threads about your 83 Brat. GD
