Cheap Parts Or Stealership Parts?

Featured Replies

I'm giong to be doing a full tune up. Debaiting with myself on going to the dealership (thus paying twice as much or more) or going to my favorite local parts shop and getting the the cheap stuff.

What say you? Which do you buy and why? Perhaps there's a third option; getting genuine Subaru parts but not going through the stealership? Not sure where such a place is.

Don't go to the dealer, but don't get cheap stuff either. Get what you can in the higher end lines from the parts store.

Lots of suggestions but what are your rationales? :)

Thanks for the link to the genuine subie parts.

what are your rationales?

I live in the weeds, either way (dealership, or aftermarket) a part required is a "special order", and wait. The OEM part arrives, and the job gets done, cheap Chinese junk arrives, and IF it fits, maybe it might last out the week.

How much do you enjoy doing the same job twice?

(my dealer sells to me at better than trade price)

order from 1stsubaru parts.com ask for Jason when you find there 800 number. they will get you the correct parts, and you will not pay stealership like prices that you will see in the MN area. shipping will be like 8 bucks for everything you get, but their prices are wholesale, not stealership marked up bend over take it or leave... in the long run, you will get your parts and they will be correct and last as long as you have the car.

Now we're talk'n!

Thanks for the input; everyone =D

Get OEM plugs, if you can afford to, get the Platinum or Iridium plugs, they are more expensive than stock but they last 60,000 miles or 90,000 miles, not the 30,000 that the regular stock plugs go. If you go aftermarket, get NGK.

Most of the tune-up stuff is pretty competitive at the dealership. Don't worry about your wires unless the ends are corroded, or if they are arcing, plug wires last a pretty long time, I've seen plenty of Subarus at work with 180k and the original wires.

ask for Jason

Unless something's changed recently, Jason is with Mike Scarff Subaru in Auburn WA. Call 866-528-5282 and ask for him--you'll get good service and the best prices I've found anywhere. (1stsubaruparts was sold off to someone else a few years back.)
