August 16, 200817 yr I had a pinhole in the oil pan. It was just beside the dipstick tube going in the pan. A bit of jb weld did the trick. But there is more to come. The front side is rusted badly, it’s not going to hold for a long time. What about grinding it to the medal and just put one layer of jb weld on it? I know, it’s time for a new pan, but the $$ is not so many here. I searched “oil pan” on all forums, not a single hit. Nobody ever did something with the oil pan USMB? That cannot be! Thanks
August 16, 200817 yr Personally, I wouldn't mess with a badly rusted oil-pan. My gut reaction is: Replace that pan ASAP.
August 17, 200817 yr I replaced one, on an 11 year old Legacy, is was rusty on the front, and I didn't dare wait 'til it spilled the oil and blew the engine - not to mention contaminate the road and risk someone behind having a very serious accident. So, I am voting: Replace it. (Loosening the engine mounts and removing the topside "pitch stopper" should give room enough)
August 18, 200817 yr Just post in the wanted section for one. Someone can grab you one at a rust-free yard and you'll get what you need at a price you can afford. A pan wouldn't be more than $10 at any yard around here. GD
August 18, 200817 yr Pitch stopper is mounted on the top of the gearbox. A small "dog bone" that connects to the firewall.
