Bought myself a nice little 76 subaru and now the engine has gone bad!

Now I am looking for alternative engines. I'm tolds an EA71 is a direct fit, or possibly an EA81 if I use the EA81 trans. along with it, would be nice to have an overdrive.

Just looking for suggestion as to what will or will not work??

I was able to drive this car around for a while , before the engine went bad.

It is just amazing to me how much attention this little car draws! Wherever I go it is gauranteed someone will ask me about it and have favorable comments. BENGAL

EJ22 all the way!

I think he is going the traditional EA71 route. I chatted with him today.

 

I don't think he would be interested in the EJ22 labor involved.
