Maintenance on a 2.2l Legacy

Featured Replies

We're thinking about taking the plunge and getting a '93 Legacy to replace the '92 Loyale. I've never dealt with this "generation" of Subarus before - how are they to work on? On par with the DL/GL/Loyale?

Thanks!

Great along the same lines just a little different and newer! But the driveline is relatively bulletproof and the rest is pretty straight forward like the loyales! But they don't have the same clearance and they are much heavier. Thats my opinion!:)

+1^..excellant engines....i have an ej22 in my 96....non interference (until 97), no head gasket issues (usually) and are extremely reliable......i have almost 200,000 on my legacy and it runs like it has 50,000.....very good investment in my minds eye.....

oh yeah, the EJ22 rocks. it's different though, so familiarize yourself with jobs and don't assume it's "Just like the Loyale" on everything. search here and check first.

does it have to be a 93, you might be able to find a newer one? the newer ones look much nicer, they are nicer, and should have fewer rust issues.

but no matter - the EJ22 and EJ18 are awesome engines. if you keep them from overheating or running out of oil, they easily make 250,000 miles.
