Escort distributer on 2.5?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to do the Ford Escort distributer install on a SOHC 2.5? I can't find a decent 2.2 for a swap into my brat, but I've located a decent buy on a 2.5, but I'm ally only interested in doing the swap if I can stay away from elecectroncs.

i have never checked out a 2.5 sohc.

an easy way to tell would be to see if it has a cam access port on the back where a turbo would go.

if it does, take that access plug off and see if the cam has a slot and hole in it.

you need the port to be able to adapt one to the disty.if is no port you can always buy 2.2 heads.but i would hold out for a 2.2 .there is a lot of info if you search the net for 2.2 carb.cheers, brian

i think it needs to be a DOHC Phase I EJ25, not the SOHC. i believe you need access to the rear cam via that cam cap on the rear of the engine that's attached by two small bolts. the SOHC doesn't have this part, so there's no access. hopefully someone here corrects me if i'm wrong since i'm not positive of that or how the disty swap goes.

the install and electronics is a big bear, but there are folks here that can do wiring work for you. might want to look into as the improvements are enormous across the board, better mileage, performance, technology, simpler, more reliable, etc.

I know the DOHCs don't have it. and was just looking at a phase 2 EJ22 today, and noticed it doesn't have it.

here's a picture of an EJ22 with the cap on it. it's the funny cap held on by 2 bolts on the back of the head on the right side of the pic.

I highly doubt an EJ25 has it...but it's possible.

it doesn't have it... I had one for a bit.

EJ18 does.

DOHC EJ25 dont have the port, I have one sittin in the shop right now. IDK about a SOHC motor, but i bet its unlikely.

yup, no mount holes, and the cam lacks the groove needed to run the disty.
