i have a 89 gl 2wd stock how hard would it be to convert to a 4x4 and a possable 5 speed and or turbo its a 1.8L F.I. non-turbo any thoughts or sugestions?? and if so what would be an ideal lift and tire size for it....and how would i make a home made lift sence ill be replaceing my frunt half shafts anyways :burnout:

You would have to basically get a complete 4wd parts car. Then transfer the whole rear end assembly. To do that you have to drill holes for the mounting. The transfer transmission, drive shaft, center bearing mount. Its quite a bit of work but I guess if your car is in really good shape and you want to do it, it can be done!! And 4wd is a lot of fun!

for only being 2wd i got stuck once in sand right by the water but iv gone thrue 3 feet deep puddles no flooding mild off roading and mud bogin probly y i have to replace my half shafts lol

It is going to be alot easier to find a cheap factory 4wd an save your 2wd for use as a daily driver. Converting from 2 to 4wd is a lot of work. It is not bolt up by any means. just my .02

as stated, definitely possible.but not worth it when you can find 4wd soobs for hundreds of dollars.just keep your eyes for a 4wd rig and use it as a toy.cheers, brian

Don't the 2WD EA82s have all the mounting bolt holes for the 4wd setup?

 

I agree with trying to find a 4wd so you can have one as a daily driver.
