December 22, 200817 yr I know im killing the forums with dumb questions but when I do the egr solenoid bypass with a resistor theres the blue and black wire there does both does gets wired together with the resistor?? or does just the blue wire?? cuase i got a 33ohm 1/2 watt and i had them both wire together with the resistor and it burnt up .... hELP:mad:
December 22, 200817 yr You are from Hickory Hickory, PA?? Get any solenoid from any 80's Honda or Toyota that looks similar. They will work. PM or email me if you want. Skip
December 22, 200817 yr I did that resistor thing and after a year and a half in burnt up and I kept blowing a fuse. I just have it disconnected for right now with black tape over the cel. What i am wondering is this ok or should I just replace the solenoid so I have a functional egr?
December 22, 200817 yr You need to use a 10 watt resistor for reliability. The power dissipated with a 33 ohm is about 6 watts. And the engine compartment is hardly at room temperature, so maybe even a 20 watt. My solution: http://home.comcast.net/~davidtief/solenoid.html I have not had one of my upgrades fail. Almost 20 years of maintaining EA82s.
December 22, 200817 yr i spent some time messing with this before. i just replaced the original hitachi solenoid with a newer nippondenso one. and you don't even need limit your search to 80's toyotas and hondas. subaru uses the nippondenso solenoids in new gen cars so you can get them from any impreza or legacy.
