January 21, 200917 yr Seems the 6 year old radiator decided to blow a tube yesterday on the way to work. Luckily, we were close to a gas station, and only 20 minutes from work. Put some pre-mix in, made it to work. Checked it out at break, and it's got a small stream coming from near the tank about half way up. Topped it off after work, made it the 32 miles home. She's parked for a few days now.... Edited January 25, 200917 yr by TomRhere
January 21, 200917 yr Should just be able to throw another radiator in right? Or did it overheat badly
January 21, 200917 yr Man, that's no good. Hope you didn't overheat. And do you get off work really, really late? Or go to work really, really early? Or maybe just up late? Sorry, off topic, but I'm not used to seeing people over the age of 30 post at 1 in the morning. Twitch.

January 22, 200917 yr Author No, it didn't get "hot", but it was climbing up that way before reaching the gas station, got over the 3/4 area of the gauge. The heater going from blowing heat to blowing cold air is what got my attention. It was 1* out that morning. Brrr... Don't have another radiator for the EA-81, but I do have a couple EA-82 ones here. I can "fit" one of those in until I can get this one repaired, or order in another. Hoping the snow stays away until I get it fixed as we're relying on Rich's '91 GMC Sonoma ST to get to/from work right now. 4.3 Auto, LSD. Thing will step sideways shifting into 2nd at idle speed, on dry pavement. Makes for fun driving on slippery roads. The ST on the sides has to stand for "Spins Tires".
January 22, 200917 yr sorry for your luck, man. is this the brat that's gonna get injected? if so, maybe you could keep an ea82 rad in there so its easier to get upper rad hoses that fit (i don't know if that's true, just a suggestion).
January 25, 200917 yr Author Just got in from wrenching on it. Found a stone hit was cause of leak, smashed one tube and broke a hole in one other. Easy fix there... Slapped a 2-core EA-82 radiator in it for now. Bailing wire is your friend. Was going to use the new one I have, but it has plastic tanks, so that meant more wiring to be done for cooling fan thermoswitch. To cold out to be messing with that stuff, a whopping *12F. Spent about 2 hours on the Wife's '93 Sunbird trying to find what it's idle issue is, before wrenching on the BRAT. My feet are ice cubes now. I'm done for the day...... It's Miller Time!!!!!
January 25, 200917 yr Spalding Wrecking in Spokane will ship you a new radiator for about $100. Search for their 800 number. Good luck with the winter and getting the Brat completely back on the road.
January 25, 200917 yr My EA82 radiator is all bolted in my Brat. Why don't you just fit it in permanantly
