January 15, 200422 yr I've found it on ebay, $1200. One person says 260hp stock, the seller says 280hp stock, what are the figures on the engine? It's crazy to think a 2.0L even with a turbo setup is getting more than 220hp. Crazy. But FUN. Anyhow, I'm more of an older subaru fan, but I thought y'all in the new boards might appreciate this JDM engine find. now, if I am correct, the EJ20TT only comes from japan, was never imported stock right? couldn't find anything saying it was. Isn't that how JDM works? aren't they a distributor for hi-perf engines we don't get here in the states?
January 15, 200422 yr Subaru EJ20TT 14.2"L 31.5"H 21.7"H 27.6"L with turbos and intercooler 280hp JDM simply means Japanese domestic market. The stuff we get is USDM.. I'll let you puzzle over what that one means:D Good luck stuffing an twin turbo motor into a LHD car.. you might want to consider trying to find a postal issue legacy wagon for this motor.
January 15, 200422 yr Author oh, I didn't necessarily want it for my hatch. although that would be way too much fun! I've heard of an EJ engine/tranny/driveline swap into a hatchback before. Moosens I think has an EJ22 in his hatch, but with a EA to EJ tranny adapter. trying to gather information for a guy who's trying to build up his Triumph GT6. He's CONVINCED the best engine for it is a Mustang SVO engine. He thought before that he wanted an SHO engine... he drives a focus, what's the deal with Ford and this guy? Oh well. thanks for the info.
January 16, 200422 yr As far as I know: We had a 2.0 litre turbo over here which delivered 199bhp. The first 2.2 litre turbos in the US were only giving 160bhp. The JDM 2.0 litre turbo boasted 220bhp. The 260bhp version must be rare.
January 16, 200422 yr All 2.0 Twin Turbos had the following power output: Manual transmission cars 280 ps (JIS) Automatic transmission cars 260 ps (JIS) They have been built since 1993 in the Legacy range and are very common in Japan. Many engine importers also carry them.
January 16, 200422 yr Don't expext to get that kind of power over here on pump gas, japan has 100 RON pumpgas, thats why they can push the motors more over there. Mark,
January 16, 200422 yr Author I have my hatchback's timing increased to 12 (from 8) and run 93 octane. One time before I put in additive and ran it at 14 degrees. I was afraid of getting my engine too hot, so I put it back down to 12 and went back to super. Any EJ series WRX ECU would work right?
January 16, 200422 yr Any EJ series WRX ECU would work right? I doubt it.. Your best bet wyould be to get a front cut so you have all the wiring.
January 17, 200422 yr No. For the TwinTurbo you also need the JDM ECU that fits the motor, because the turbo's spool up is controlled by valves and actuators that need ECU input. If install a single WRX turbo and plug the oil and coolant holes on the LH side cylinder head, you could use the engine (hard ware only) running on USDM WRX electronics.
January 17, 200422 yr Originally posted by JonOfScio It's crazy to think a 2.0L even with a turbo setup is getting more than 220hp. The WRX STi spec C, puts out 330 horse out of the 2.0 liter turbo, but thats only avalible in europe.
January 28, 200422 yr my friend has a JDM STI ver8 swap on his GDA wrx, with all that twin scroll technology he's pushing about 350hp... and that's completely stock... 22psi stock:eek: most sti engines after the 96 or so although rated at 280 make close to or over 300 hp... the 280 rating is because of government regulations
