If you wanted to put the ECM somewhere else can you lengthen/shorten the grey sheathed wiring. I think the only ones that probably matter are the O2 sensor, and the MAF... But could the wires be modified with out throwing off the sensors?

The fuel pump has a built-in strainer? I see no pre pump protection and no mention of it. I know my tank doesnt have one.

Yes, you could lengthen or shorten it. It is regular wire shielded by a wrap that is connected to ground. If you could scavenge some extra of that type of wire it would be real easy. Just make sure to tie the wrapping section to ground.

I liked GD's idea about putting the ECM in a water tight box in the spare tire area, and from the pics of the harness the disty and MAF wires will be super super long.

My ECM is under the dash on the passenger side just like it would be on a factory SPFI car

And thats probably where I would put it. But I just liked the box under the hood idea. Plus if you could modify these wires then it would aid in removal and installation.

There is a screen in the inlet of the pump. FI just needs a constant pressure, a slightly smaller line isn't goin to affect anything. Not unless you are also turbo charging/bigger injectors/RRFPR, etc.....

It's well worth the time once the install is done to spend a little extra time with the SPFI unit. Most of these will already have 200k on them before you get ahold of them. Verify that the throttle stop is properly adjusted and that the idle switch/TPS is also adjusted properly. Check for any dead spots in the sweep of the TPS especially just off idle. Clean any varnish or build up in the throttle bore and around the plate. It's also a good idea to take the IAC apart and clean it's plunger and seat. Lastly make sure to replace the horseshoe (toilet seat) o-ring at the base of the SPFI unit. Any other details?

The lines can be shortened - it would be best if you got hold of a deutsch plug kit so you can do it right but it's not neccesary. The sheilded wire is easily obtained from any electrical supply - just specify the conducter size and number. It's only there to prevent RF interferance.

"Spiffy" pulled + purchased. Removal of the harness took longer than I expected. Harness ready, distributor re-geared. Tomarrow is another day...

Im having trouble getting the throttle-body gasket and the manifold gaskets. The dealership by my house is GONE! The one across town did not answer their phone. Im getting tempted to do a Checker or napa run, but I should know better.

Im still contemplating installing the ecu in a box in the spare tire area... But I am concerned about heat. Im not too sure its really that hot there, and with summers that reach 120+ here from time to time it gets smokin hot in the interior anyways. Maybe its not the best spot for it though.

GD: did you ever end up trying it?

I haven't yet, but I wouldn't hessitate to do it. Heat should be no problem. There's plenty of other electronics under the hood anyway. I've also seen it done with an EJ22 swapped Brat a few years back at one of the shows. It's a good location - under the dash gets pretty hot as well due to the lack of airflow, hot electrical components, and proximity to the heater core.
