February 10, 200917 yr EA-82 axles are longer than EA-81 axles, so you have to get them off an EA-81 car. -Jaren
February 10, 200917 yr EA-82 axles are longer than EA-81 axles, so you have to get them off an EA-81 car. -Jaren Also, turbo axles are different from non-turbo. You would likely be safe with any '82, '83 and '84 wagon; if there are any Brats or Hatches in the mix, you can go as late as 1987 for your axles. Check the write up in the USRM for hints and tips for changing the axle.
February 10, 200917 yr Author not sure what the diffrence between a EA-82 and an EA_81 or what i have the hollander interchange but it not giving me that info so if ytou can explain to me the diffrence betwwen is be great
February 10, 200917 yr You have an 83 GL which is the EA81 body style. The next newer body style which was made from 85-94 is known as EA82. The axles do not interchange. an axle from either side of another EA81 will work. Any from 82-89 with the same style body as yours.
February 10, 200917 yr They did start making that style in 1980 but most likely anything that old will be the older Gen 1 body style which is different. Good luck with your search!
February 10, 200917 yr Author . Any from 82-89 with the same style body as yours. ok now im confused again
February 10, 200917 yr ok now im confused again They made your style car in those years plus a few. Any axles from either side from a car that has the same body style as your car will fit in.
February 10, 200917 yr Here is an EA82 (Thanks The Loyale) And here is an EA81 (Mine) So anything from the EA81 style will fit your car
February 10, 200917 yr so, let me either make it either clear or confusing!! will axles from a FWD 5spd carter/weber ea81 work for a 4wd AT ea81t ????? if so, if not,
February 11, 200917 yr Author here the interchange for my year 1982 - 1987 BRAT 1980 - 1982 GLF 1980 - 1984 DL 1980 - 1984 STANDARD 1980 - 1989 GL 1987 STANDARD 1987 - 1989 GL-10
February 11, 200917 yr Yup! That's all the years that fit, but just remember that they all have the same body style as your car!!! There are a couple different body styles that intersect with those years, so in order for the axle to fit your car, it has to be the same style.
