March 17, 200917 yr Took off my downpipes to replace the gaskets and I noticed that one of the inner sleeves on one side had broken off. So now it rattles at idle and im sure limits airflow.... Should I leave as is or have one fabd up?
March 17, 200917 yr Author Negative ghost rider.... Let me explain it better: The downpipes up to the point were they meat is made of 2 metal tubes, a sleeve and the inner one which actually carries the gases. Well now one of the inner portions on one side snapped and I cant take it out because it bends... Meaning it simply sits inside and rattles, not much but it sounds like doo doo :-\ Cant imagine the gap is good for airflow The inside pipe is what broke, IE: have no exhaust leaks...
March 17, 200917 yr The inside pipe is what broke, IE: have no exhaust leaks... Hi, What you're seeing sounds like an "air-gap" front Y pipe. I'm not sure if that's the correct name but I had one on an '87 GL. This pipe has no heat shields and is a pipe, within a pipe. I ended up brazing the two together to stop the rattle after using a pipe expander on the inner one. You may want to just replace it. Doug
