Pulley + other stuff

Featured Replies

Well, i pulled the bolts out to R+R the alt, and I believe I broke the bolt to move the idler pulley around. It was dark. and I lightly turned something, and it started going easy after a pop, and now I can't put it back in.

So now I think my alt removal project is screwed, and I have to figure out how to get the idler pulley out and off so I can remove the belt.

Any ideas?

also, i bought a trans cooler, goes in front of the radiator, and I believe the heatsink looking device by the battery is also a trans cooler, and it's all beat to hell so I figured I'd change it. Is that device a trans cooler?

Gah. Bought MMO and I'll be using it and changing the oil either this weekend or next week sometime.

year? model? engine?

i suggest plenty of PBblaster next time. i dont even think of touching bolts on my car without it. and from your pic it looks like an xt so i'll check out mine in the morning to try to give you direction on the alt problem.

but there is always a solution to a problem. may not be easy but anything can be fixed.

Its a XT6. The belt tensioner is totally different than the EA stuff.

The bolt that holds the pulley needs to be loosened, then you can start backing the adjusting nut out.

The bolt that needs to be loosened, is that the one in the center of the pulley? Because I tried loosening that too, and only succeeded in breaking two wrenches and a socketwrench.

:(

And since it most likely is broken, how easily is it r+r'd? I suppose I could run on it welded together with OLD like it is, but I'd rather not pay a shop any number of hundreds of dollars just to pull it off and put a new one on if it's readily done on my own. I'll take pictures of it today and post them so you guys can take a look and maybe that'll help.

Also, removing the muffler about 3 feet back really helped with the car running, it no longer makes the pop noise and drives around just fine (as long as the battery is charged) THERE WAS A WIG AND A BIRD INSIDE MY MUFFLER.

I'll post pics of that too.

No I belioeve that is a cooler for the power steering system.

Can someone with a bit more XT6 experience verify? Don't the XT6s' cybrid stytem have a cooler?

No, they dont. I cant imagine why someone would install a cooler of such size either.

It could be a oil cooler, but it never had one stock.

Maybe the OP can provide a pic of it?
