April 30, 200916 yr 5-speed pushbutton S/R (EA82) trans would probably be about the same amount of work to refit as the 5-speed D/R EA82 on an EA81, right?
April 30, 200916 yr I would think so... on the s/r you have the vacuum system to keep the 4wd engaged... on the d/r you have the linkage... either way that's the only real difference... and if you're going to do it I'd go for the solid feel of a lever to shift into 4wd rather than trust the vacuum...
April 30, 200916 yr Plus you get dual range.... I haven't done it yet on mine... still sitting in a pile of parts in the workshop, with the motionless car out in the yard... doing an SPFI swap on the EA81 at the same time... Z
May 1, 200916 yr More work actually. The pushbutton requires more wireing and vacuum hose/solenoid hookup than the d/r. The linkage is the same either way except for the d/r you make a two cuts to the 4WD shift rod (the EA81 shift rod) - removing 1" of it and then welding it back together. It then pins to the transmission the same way it did to the 4 speed. GD
