May 18, 200916 yr I've been thinking about getting a grounding kit for my 2000 Forester. Anyone have comments about grounding kits? Are they snake oil or do they work as advertised? ~Howard
May 18, 200916 yr I don't know about the kits, but good grounds are a must for proper operation. I wouldn't consider a kit unless I was having "mysterious" electrical issues. Actually, you can clean up all the grounds yourself without the cost of a kit.
May 18, 200916 yr i seem to remember someone having trans? shift? problems when they added extra grounds. am i nuts... any one else remember this? Edited May 18, 200916 yr by johnceggleston
May 28, 200916 yr Does anyone have additional comments ? My comment is in the form of a question: What problem(s) are you experiencing that you'd hope a grounding kit would resolve?
May 28, 200916 yr "Grouding Kits" are just snake oil. If you believe you are having ground-related electrical problems, your local welding supply shop can help you resolve them for about $12. Go in and ask for some #4 welding lead and copper ring terminals. 2-3 feet to run from engine and transmission, 1 foot or so to run from the body. Bring both of them up directly to the battery. You simply aren't going to get better ground potential than that. If you continue having ground problems, then you need to look at the individual ground points for whatever component is affected.
May 28, 200916 yr Ive seen a couple of them....#1 I Will say some of them look really cool!.. But obviously thats not why people them....As others have mentioned If your just getting a grounding kit to sure up the grounds Personally I would just go around and clean/tighten all your ground connections...Any specific problems your experiencing?
May 29, 200916 yr I have the Sun Auto hyper grounding kit. I got it free, I would never have paid for it. I noticed no difference. Oh well, it does add that mad tyte JDM bling.
May 29, 200916 yr Author Thanks to everyone for their comments. Looks like I will save a few $$ by not getting the grounding kit. ~Howard
