June 1, 200916 yr ok, so...i have removed everything, including the faulty no. 2 toothed idler pulley. so now for the install. the automatic tensioner has been removed. is there a trick to re-installing it?( it doesn't seem to want to compress up wards) secondly and to me most importantly, the the left and right camshaft sprocket are out of alignment. the alignment mark should be @ 12 o'clock and the piston position mark should be @ 1 o'clock(the little arrow on cam sprocket) correct? is there a certain way to lign both sides up prior to belt install?? Or is it just as simple as rotateing the cam sprocket clockwise by hand until they are in alignment??
June 1, 200916 yr Which engine? Check through the threads of the last few days. The links to T-belt "how-to" articles were just posted in one of them. Also try a search. Use the "advanced" search option to narrow things down. Good Luck Will- EDIT*** Oops! Just saw you had the type of engine in the title. Sorry, still check the recent threads, the 2.2L t-belt was just talked about as it has been many many many times in the past.
June 1, 200916 yr See http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=99777 , especially the links given in posts #3 and #10 of that thread.
June 2, 200916 yr Do not use the arrows for timing!!!!!!! It is the hash marks. The tensioner must be compressed vvvvverrryyy slowly like taking 10 minutes ie in a vise on the earlier style that have if you have a '93, but you said 'upwards' whcih wsould be the later tensioner sytle. If so it must be compressed vertically (not in a vise) again veryyyyyy slowly or you will kill it.
