June 18, 200916 yr My tranny is dripping oil out of the bottom. It seems to be coming from a large nut that secures 2 little orange wires under the driver. I tightened the nut some but it still leaks. Should I tighten it more or is something else wrong? Its lost about a cup or two in the last 2 weeks.
June 19, 200916 yr auto or manual? does it look like there is/was a gasket on this nut? i dont know about you but leaking nuts bother me
June 19, 200916 yr Author JAJAJA ROFL i think they bother everyone. Tranny is a 5spd single range FWD. There are 2 orange wires with a small rubber boot going into the head of this nut and the other end of the nut is screwed to the side of the tranny.
June 19, 200916 yr Sounds like one of the gear posistion switches (neutral switch or 4WD indicator, etc). They are plastic with plastic threads. I would disconnect it if you can and remove it to inspect the threads. I have not seen one leak like that but it could have vibrated loose or lost a sealing washer or something. Clean the entire area to be sure it is indeed leaking from that switch. GD
June 19, 200916 yr Author My oil is UV reactive and I check with a UV light and it seems to be coming from the edges of that area. I will get further under the car to verify.
