Removing tail lights on wagon

Featured Replies

Im going to be removing the rear tail lights on my GL wagon and was wondering if there was anything I need to look out for? Are they held on by that black gooey stuff? Were do I get this stuff to re-seal them when I put them back on?

yes there are like 3 or 4 nuts holding them on from the inside of the cargo area, and a ring of that black goo.

All I suggest is dont pry too hard when you are taking off the light as you can crack the edge of the lens

The black goo is butyl rubber, and I would recommend using that above anything else. Even silicone would be too permanent, and you may crack the lens in getting it off again. I used DAP gutter and flashing butyl rubber in a caulk tube. Gray or white, no black...who cares!?!

a little bit of heat helps with getting it off, softens the black goo.

i'm not talkin major heat, just ain the back of the car so its in the sun for a bit and warm
