June 29, 200916 yr Hi, How do you check if your Mass Air Flow sensor is working good or not? My car turns over but does not start. thanks
June 29, 200916 yr FSM may give specifications. A visual can show the fine wires of the MAF broken. But I doubt it's your MAF sensor. Best bet for help is more information. What vehicle, what engine, how many miles, any prior problems? What did it do before it didn't start? Crank/cam sensors are more apt to cause a no-start on EJ vehicles.
June 29, 200916 yr Author 1994. EJ18. 192,000kms. I have tried changing the crank sensor. I put a 600CCA battery on it, it started. Put my 520CCA battery back on, it worked for about a week then died again, wouldn't start with either battery. Starter motor works fine told by auto electrician. Turns over but doesn't start. June 29, 200916 yr you need to make sure the starter is getting sufficient voltage. enough power loss will allow it to turn over, but not quite fast enough, those things draw a lot of amps. that's why you're battery will go dead in a matter of minutes trying to start a car. all of that to say - the battery needs to be good. the battery terminal connectors need to be clean and tight. the grounds and wiring for the starter need to be good. any check engine light? that's the first place to start if there is.
June 29, 200916 yr If I recall correctly, when my MAF sensor failed, I could start the car with the MAF sensor disconnected (although it would then run poorly), but it would not start with it connected. You may want to try this. Mike V.
June 29, 200916 yr I don't think that's definitive. I've heard people say that before but i've went and unplugged mine before and the car wouldn't start. maybe certain engines are different?
June 29, 200916 yr Author yes there is check engine light. The connections are all fine. Battery has been tested, good. Battery charged up over night.

June 29, 200916 yr Author I tried unplugging, it wouldn't start. The check check engine light shows along with the radiator (looks like it) light, battery and check engine. A few seconds later the oil light comes on.
