Are you just supposed to tighten them and not use any of the anerobic sealant (not the oil pump to block--I am talking about the plate on the back of the oil pump)

Also...how tight? There is no wway to measue the torque---should I use my impact (manual) driver and a hammer to set them home?

I make them about as tight as I can with a conventional screw driver.

 

Sometimes other folks and I loctite them. Think about how clean Loctite really needs the surfaces to be to work though. I'm undecided if it's a good practice. I rarely have the time to properly clean and wait for the oil pump to dry (like overnight) before re-assembly. In truth I rarely Loctite them - only if a screw or two is really, really loose do I do this to it(them).

 

I figure I'm torqueing them down more than the factory did and that should help avoid future problems.

ok guys...I know there has to be 20 of you out there who must know the answer...does the plate on the back need the anerobic sealant? I did not see any when I removed it. If not, why not?

The plate on the back gets no sealant. The pump to the engine gets Ultra Grey.

no sealant. there's nothing anywhere, ever, anyplace that ever suggests using sealant.

reason for no sealant would be could you imagine trying to remove one and keep it intact if it did have goo on it.
