Hogsubie
I need new cv joints , but all the local parts stores just sell whole axle assemblies. They want around $60 plus core. How much are individual cv joints and does anyone sell just cv joints? Is it worth it to replace just the cv's? Is it best to replace the whole axle all at one time? Thanks, Jason
calebz
I don't know of anywhere that sells just the joints.. in my experience, its best to replace the whole axle. $60 plus a core isn't bad, just make sure you inspect them closely before you take them home.. and get a good warranty.. I believe mine came with a lifetime warranty
Skip
I second Caleb, you can not remove the CV like you can the DOJ you must buy the complete axle. Some rebuilds are shoddy to say the least Caveat Emptor and you usually get what you pay for.
DerFahrer
Just buy a whole new set of axles from http://www.cvaxles.com for something in the $50-$60 range, why bother rebuilding the axle, I say?? I have done business with them before, they make an EXCELLENT product, and they stand behind them too. I've already replaced the front axles on my Legacy with their products, and am about to do the same with my new XT...

JonOfScio
yeah... if you mean front, Schucks has them for $75 a piece (if including the core parts) and they are supposed to be the top rated axle company. the brand they carry.
calebz
thats where I got mine.. 6000 miles and still going strong.. no troubles at all, except that it took 5 axles to find 2 that weren't visibly damaged or weren't obviously constructed by a myopic retard with an obvious dislike for soob axles
Hogsubie
What are some specific things to look for when inspecting axles?
