Oil Leak Somewhere on EA82T

Recommended Posts

OK.....

I've got a very small oil leak somewhere on top and in the back part of the engine area. I can see a little puddle of oil on the engine just infront of the spare tire. I've tried cleaning it up and seeing if I could see the oil dripping while the engine is running, but I couldn't see anything. I even had my son get in and rev. up the engine, still nothing. I clean it up and after going on a 2 hr drive its back again.

Anyone have any ideas what to check? Or what to replace? I have replaced all of the factory hose springs with clamps and that didn't do it. So I am hoping that someone out there can give me some help here to stop the oil leak. Thanks.

Oh, and I need to know where I can get a compete set of hoses for the EA82T ? It's a 87 GL-10 4WD Turbo Wagon.

Chris, one place oil can come from in the location you describe is the crankcase vent hose located in the center rear of the block.

This hose is very prone to heat bake and as a consequence cracking at the fitting.

Oil vapor blowby could cause this.

I would change the PCV valve (please note, recent reports using aftermarket PCV valves on our turbo cars have caused problems, . For the cost, a genuine Subaru part is suggested)

Please check this hose for cracks where it connects to the block fitting.

Hope this helps

I'm with Skip on this one. I'm not really familiar with the Turbo model, but I looked hard at an 86 EA82T last week, and it needed its driver's side PCV hose replaced (it was cracked where it attaches to the rocker cover).

Subaru had it for about $30. Special order, but no problem, the part number is not NLA.

Hmmm let me think... trying to remember what I did and didnt do when I had the intake manifold off the car...

I dont remember if I changed the PCV valve, but I did change pretty much everything else in there for sure. I did reuse most of the old PCV hoses because supposibly they have the bends and stuff in them for a reason, its possible the one on the rear finally cracked from the heat of the turbocharger (none were cracked at the time I was tinkering with it, or if they were, they were replaced)

I replaced most of the other smaller hoses of course :D

I had my passenger side PCV breather hose "explode" on me tonight.

I have put worm drive clamps on both rocker hoses, because they leak just a little bit there.

Well, I was doing the "water in the intake" thing tonight, running wide open and feeding water into the rubber boot, and I suddenly got squirted with oil/water. The hose cracked right above the hose clamp -- pointed toward me, of course.

I cut the hose back 1", reclamped it, got out the aerosol Gunk and cleaned up the bay, then cleaned up myself.

I must be the only subaru owner without an oil leak. On the other hand, I'm probably the only subaru owner with surface rust on the oil pan.

I have discovered that the leaks are specifically engineered to stop components under the hood from rusting!

Tha being said, its guaranteed that I will never have any rust under my hood.. I call it my custom protection coating:D
