  1. Whats up? Just joined here. I've been an 80's Subaru fan since I was in high school, having owned an 89' DL Coupe. That car was auto and fwd but I had always wanted to own a manual 4WD Subaru of the vintage. Unfortunately in the northeast they are hard to find in good shape as Im sure you all know. Last week, I just randomly did a search on CL and this bad boy popped up one town over. No rust at all (from WA), mechanically excellent, 4 speed dual range EA81. Even the a/c works and blows cold. Has some accident damage on the front which I may fix but overall a good driver. Anyway looking forward to participating in this forum.

  2. Still into my resto mod “if you can call it that” build on my 91 RS Loyale. I’ve always been a fan of improved lighting technology. Not only for a cleaner more presentable look. But safety as well. My goal is to update what I can in a tasteful manner. Ive swapped over to the shorty front bumper and started with having custom led front turn signals made by a buddy of mine! This is just the beginning

  3. Gentlemen, I purchased a used 2017 OutBack Premier in November of 2017, and now in 2019 have just updated my Navigation Map system. I purchased the car from a Subaru dealer, and no one said anything about the nav update program that Subaru provides, FREE of Charge for the first 3 years after purchase, of some Subaru models for the years 2016 and 2017. I own 4 vehicles, 3 of which have navigation systems (2011 Lexus, 2016 Nissan, 2017 Subaru) and updating the nav systems always appeared to be a $150 to $250 a year expense I was reluctant to spend. Then by chance today, a Google research discovered that Subaru has the map upgrade program I stated above, free for the first 3 yearly updates, and then a yearly purchase afterwards. If you're not aware of the program, and your car fits the years and models affected, Google "Subaru Map Updates", register for the program, download the "SubaruGen2-Toolbox-inst.exe" file and get the first of your 3 free map updates downloaded to your PC or Mac. Then transfer the file to your Mini SD card from the Navigation dash screen display of your car. Everything is explained on the Subaru Map Update site. Free is good!

  4. I have swapped an older ej22 into an L body, it's pretty straightforward. Starting in 2007, at least in the US they started the immobilizer thing, so you need the harness, ecu and the manifold from the same car is what someone told me at the junkyard. Grab the driveline stuff from the trans back for awd, a custom length driveshaft will likely be needed. Make sure to get the hubs and note spline count, since you will also be five lug swapping the front as well. For old school dual range you need the trans and rear pumpkin with axles and hubs to match? Plus an adapter plate if installing an ej engine. It seems easy enough to me, but someone with more experience in the 2wd to 4wd subject can add his two cents! If it were me, I would find a cheap ej and not worry about the 4wd part for now. That donor impreza you mention for all the awd stuff will be much cheaper with a blown engine! Happy wrenching! Some five lug swap action here:

  5. It has been a long time since I got on here. I was having major issues with the car dying and could not figure it out. Today I pulled the HVAC airbox out and found the offender. One of the wires in the harness bundle going to the ECU had a nick in it from a sharp piece of metal under the dash. It would ground out in certain circumstances and kill the engine. These circumstances tended to be when driving up hill, on rough road in moderate to high ambient air temps. This wire was the Brown/White wire going to the Throttle Position Sensor. When it grounded out, it would not throw any codes. IT's FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
