  1. I don't think that is what I need. I don't see how it would fit.
  2. Can you post a pic of it? My sister and her husband are moving to Dallas next week!! How's your weather these days??
  3. Be careful with the wire wheel, they can leave some hard to sand out grooves. I used that rust primer stuff that turns black on rust, and clear on everything eles. Only used it on the rust though, to try to stop the spreading. I masked off everything that I didn't take off the car. I pulled the trim out of the aluminum and painted it, it's a pain to get back in. I used a rubbermallet and a peice of paper over the trim as not to mess up the new paint. How long, about 3 months lol. I had all the time in the world to do it. I need to repaint a couple of places. I din't use primer everywhere:( Oh yeah, start a "Beautiful" thread when you are done. I can't wait to see it!! Good luck.
  4. Never sanded afterwards. Your idea sounds better. You can really see on my roof and on the hood of mine. Ther rest is ok. The big surface areas are the hardest.
  5. Yes, pretty much. I wish I would have primered the whole thing though, some of the red is showing through now, and I will have to reapply. I didn't even clearcoat it. I did remove the fenders, grill, doors and trunk for easier painting. used to be this color:
  6. I sanded just enough to rough up the surface, not to bare metal (in most places anyway). I did lots of wire brushing on rusty spots and used about i 20oz can of bondo in one big rusted through spot, and just to smooth out a couple other spots.
  7. So do you not use that belt at all? I don't want to use my electric fan, cause I had to wire it with a switch, for something was wrong with it??? I like the belt driven fan.
  8. Bahama blue is the color, rattlecan from Advance Auto. That is as close to WRB that the had. I would not sell it, but would trade for a Brat, a Gen 1 Brat. I was going through my pictures last night, and found those. They make look good, better than up close.
  9. I wanna remove my a/c condensor, it is non-functional and makes a squeek at certain rpms(very annoying). I wanna remove it, but it is also what tensions that belt, which looks to only control the a/c, fan and runs around a guide pully, which appears to control nothing. I would obviously have to buy a shorter belt, but how to tension it:confused: . Any Ideas? I think it could run fine without that belt altogether, but then I'd have to hook up the electric fan (which I don't use). What to do, what to do?
  10. FINALLY, it's out. I guess all you really need is PB and a manimal. I couldn't squeeze the vice grips tight enough, and they just kept slipping. Then I called my friendly neighborhood manimal, arms the size of my legs. Ever so slowly it came out, but now I need to re-tap the hole, due to the fact that the threads are slightly outta wack.
  11. PB applied before, during (after it tightened up about 1.5 unscrews) and after. I think the bolt may of protruded out of the back of the housing(hard to see), and I dind't PB there originally. I think rusty threads got me on the way out. Thanks Northwet for the Sears advice on the backer-outer. BTW, this is the only car i have broken bolts on, It just sat for about 13 years out in the open. Only 60K miles original though. Wow, after looking, I'm not sure what one to get:confused: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/subcat.do?vertical=TOOL&cat=Hand+Tools%2C+General+Purpose&subcat=Bolt-Out%2C+Taps+%26+Dies&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes Ok going out to pb blast and tap a little, then going to bed. Thanks for all the advice so far.
  12. So the '79 DL spew a little water out of the radiator for a moment the other day, so I decide to change the thermostat and add some of that aluminum stop leak to see if it will work. Whilst unbolting the thermostat housing, went well at first, then it got tight while loosening, tried to retighten, then, cRRRRACK!!! I snap the bolt head off of the top bolt. WHAT is the best way to remedy this problem? Should I saw the bolt off and JB weld?(probably not). Saw off bolt and drill out? (how will I get the threads back?) Realize I'm not a mechanic and pay someone to do it?(requires tow then:mad: ). You know you're a Gen one owner if, you're afraid to fix anything anymore, for fear of breaking bolts. (about my 6th on this car)
  13. This is the dude I emailed a little while back I think. He just got back to me this morn, and needs all kinds of measurements. I just want some stripes, I'll use whomever it is easier for. \ I don't wanna piss anyone off or hurt feelings. I just didn't think dahled was gonna get back to me. huh
  14. on the LGT I need silver, with "SUBARU=========AWD" I'll have to measure those too. Here is a pic of LGT OK on the DL Yellow just "SUBARU" as yellow as you can get it. Here is a pic of the car. I'll have to get measurements tonite. It seems you can do these, gotta price? Again I'll try to get measurements tonite.
  15. I need some for my 79 DL with just "SUBARU" on them. Like this one was, but in yellow. And then one in silver to match my wheels for my LGT also with "AWD" on it, kinda like this freaks:lol:, but not AWD spelled out.
  16. MY 1.6 WON'T churp for nothing unless i'm in a puddle of my own oil:lol:
  17. I didn"t see the trunk rubber in there? Looks awesome though bro.:banana:
  18. If I do anything like that, I'd meet someone half-way and trade, just see if thiers can make it. I know mine will, I drive her all the time, even in 97 degress at 90% humidity, she doesn't even go over half on the temp guage. And that's with only the belt driven fan, not the other one.
