  1. I used the eye end of a black rubber stretch strap. Cut it so it just barely removes the eye. They taper down already. Cut a smll notch at the top of the taper. You may have to taper it even more. Keep trimming till you can cram it in the hole. That notch will allow it tosnap into place. No need for a pilot hole drilled, for these screws go right in and expand the rubber for an even tighter fit.
  2. So, concrete is more formable. How about concrete wrapped in duct tape??? Just kidding.
  3. Great news folks. The A/C radiator has already been removed. I really don't need A/C anyway on it. It's great to hear the Brat engine will fit. I don't need no stinking power steering anyway:grin: I have that PDF that was floating around on here years ago called "How to keep your Subaru alive" That should show me how to replace that sensor? our would I need to get a Haynes manual? I'm also not completely convinced the engine is ticking so bad. It almost sounds like it could be a pinhole leak in the exhaust.
  4. 5 spd man. Push button AWD. 195,000. I picked it up cheap, but spent some bucks licensing it, and getting the exhaust done up. Well since then, it ticks really loud. I changed the oil and used high milage 5W30. Still ticks, and oil pressure seems low to me. At idle it's barely above 0. If I rev it up, it will slowly jump up about midway. I poured some of the anit-smoke, honey like stuff in it, and it helped a little, I think. I poked around in here on the low oil pressure causes. Most of the solutions are over my head. Seems like if I'm gonna do it myself, I'll need a Haynes manual? 1. How interchangeable are some of these parts, with an 85 Brat? 2. How long would one expect this engine to last mainly highway driving? 3. I have a spare 1.8 na engine from a Brat in my garage, interchaneable? My Brat runs great, the Loyale, not so much:( I need to decide which direction to go with this Loyale...I really like it. Ain't she purdy?
  5. Well, I'm gonna do it right the first time. My cable broke whilst inside the sheath. if I line things up, it looks like it broke about 6-8 inches from where it hooks to the fork. Right about where there is a little clamp/clip thingy to route the cable. Should I still put the new one through that clip? Seems like it makes a little of an angle. Like I said, I got this car a couple months ago, and wasn't sure how easy it is supposed to shift. It was kinda stiff, but thought that was normal, although the wife did not.
  6. Don't make me break out my RC helicotper with a string and magnet applied to retrieve said clip. My clips and everything are still pretty nice looking, but I will buy some new ones. Maybe it's been done before. I've only had this Brat about 2 months. Hmmmm, you buy 5 clips at a time? How often do you have to replace it? I'm just gonna call my dealer tomorrow.
  7. OK OK, I was wondering if that was the same or not that the dealer gets. Does the dealer/Subaru have a website I can get it off of, or is the dealer the only one privy to it? Just trying to avoid calling them and waiting the few xtra days, but will wait for the right one:D
  8. I got the old one out:banana: Yeah a PITA, but I've delt with worse. I worried about fitment, would this be accecptable to use (oem)? http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQSubaruQQBratQQBeck_ArnleyQQClutch_CableQQ19841987QQ093-0559.html I'll pay a high price, if it's gonna last longer.
  9. AWESOME, exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Ken
  10. NOT very flexible at all. My 15 yo son is though. So it sounds pretty cut and dry then? I am assuming it's the cable, pedal to floor, and it still drives ok, as long as I float the gears.
  11. So I'm driving to work today, push in clutch, and i hear the snap. I've searched and searched, and can't really find a walk through. Please a little help, how tough is it gonna be to do a clutch cable on an '85 Brat? Link to any walkthroughs? I like pics too.
  12. 93 Legacy was my delivery car of choice, when I delivered full time. held up better than my 93 Accord did. I've also delivered in my 02 WRX and 05 LGT and 79 DL, I only deliver on Saturdays anymore.
  13. for what it's worth i have a working belt driven fan on my 79 DL AUTO that at one time DID have A/C.
  14. This one looks in good shape. I've wantin' it, but don't have the $$$ The price is a little steep, but it says it runs. It's about 30 miles from where I live. http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/car/462225025.html
  15. That is such a cool model:cool: Guess you know how you should do the exhaust.
  16. meee possibly. I have 13" wheels on a 79 DL
  17. You ain't done yet:rolleyes: Rust sucks. Anytime I do anything on mine, I bust a bolt off. Mine sat out for many a years in the Midwest. Keep up the good work.
  18. Here is a link to my exhaust. I had to get all new since mine was ALL rotted out when I got the car. Sound clips on page one, and pics on page two. It' dual side with cherry bombs. Kinda similiar to you diagram of side exhaust, but different. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52335
  19. I appreciate your honesty. I am, of course, color-blind, so the colors I seem to choose in anything usually come out that way. I have been thinking about making it into a Bengals Car and taking it to tailgating. The good thing is, changing it, isn't that hard.
  20. Well, I was wondering if ya'll thought I "destroyed" my car, but I guess not after reading all the posts. Mine is pretty rusty in a lot of spots. It's mostly from sitting though, as it only has 65k original miles. I can daily drive it too. I'm 30 miles one way to work, and drive it on average of once a week. I hop out of the '79 DL and into the 05 LGT, and I really appreciate the LGT even more. When I first got the DL, I was going for the Rally colors and basically make fun of ricers. It sounds sooo fast, but is really so slow, and I love how that throws people off. So I shall carry on with my modding, but now with a new found respect. I wish I had the Skillz or money to do a stock resto, but Oh' well, I'll just keep hacking.
  21. That looks like soooo much fun.
  22. Cut em, cut all the way. Put 52" 's on it, that way if you pull a wheelie and flip over, you can keep going.
  23. ^^ I like how you think. Well I got my Gen-1 for basically nothing, and love making it as bizarre as can be. I currently have a pumpkin cut out and place over the 3rd headlight. I deliver pizzas in it on Saturday nites, and get all kind of compliments on it. Most are like what kinda car is that, until I put the "racing stripes" back on it. Kids call it the Simpsons car (front plate and steering wheel cover only) because of the blue and yellow I guess. I really like this site more than Nasioc ,and have learned a lot about my car here. Not trying to rub anyone the wrong way, just curoius. Your explination is insightful though. I don't care so much about stock, because most here probably wouldn't mess with mine due to the amount of rust. That is also why I don't go pure stock. Just keep putting whatever on it to keep it running. It could blow anyday, and I won't be out too much.
