  1. 2001 Subaru Outback 3.0 VDC. Why cant I find any Subaru OEM part numbers for these gaskets ??? Need some part numbers for right and left side valve cover gasket also numbers for the inside gaskets and the half moons for the valve cover bolts. Searched the net and find only aftermarket stuff like Fellpro or Nippon. thanks
  2. Time to change the fog light bulbs again on my 2001 Outback wagon. I always use the same bulb the book calls for, 9006 HB 4, 12v,51 watts. Would like to go with something brighter but dont want to burn anything up. Would like to know how many watts are too much for the fog lights on my Outback. So many different bulbs on Ebay in different watts. Would 55 watts make much of a difference in heat to melt wires or hurt anything ??? Has anyone here tried different bulbs without burning any thing up ????? Are the amber LED lights brighter in fog and do they get hot enough to melt wires ??? thanks
  3. It was not a lose connecter. A bad coil for #6 spark plug. #6 was not firing at all. And yes I found out each spark plug on the 3.0 H6 has its own coil. No spark plug wires. Easy to get at from under the car, held on by 1 bolt and a plug connecter. Price per coil is about $90.00 to $150.00, depends where you buy from. So if you have a "flashing" check engine light and your VDC light stays on and engine running rough like a motor mount broke, you may want to have your spark plug coils tested. Maby this will help someone else here. thanks
  4. Thanks for the info. I hope thats all a lose connector. I looked up those coils for the direct ignition on the 3.0, not a cheep item. thanks
  5. 2002 Outback VDC H6 3.0 Auto wagon. Had plugs changed about a week ago. Driving car up hill yesterday, lost power, check engine light start flashing and vdc off light came on. Engine got sort of jumpy, but did not die out. Stoped at Advance and had them hook up scanner,it shows plug #6 not firing.Tried to look for plug 6 but you cant see a thing from up top unless you take every thing apart. Need to know does each plug have its own coil pack, also do not see any plug wires so need to know what else I may be looking for. I read plug #6 is at rear of engine on the left drivers side of car. some help please thanks
  6. 2001 Outback 3.0 Wagon, VDC automatic. What do you call the part that prevents your shifter from moving when brake pedel is not depressed ??? My shift stuck the other day and I had to pop out the cap and stick a screw driver in the hole to get it to shift in gear. All I get is a click when I press down on the brake. It will not unlock shifter like it used to. Need a part number of name of this so if I call junk yard they know what I an talking about. Is there a fuse or an ajustment for this or do they just go out and have to be replaced ??? thanks
  7. Find my last posts on this site about the bushings I had to replace in the rear crossmember. Your problem sounds just like mine. I also found after replacing them that my front driveshaft universal was on its way out also. You need to have car on a rack (not running) with all 4 wheels off the ground and out of gear to check that drive shaft good as you turn it around by hand. Good luck
  8. Thanks again for all the great info. Monday I get the new bushings from Subaru. Will see what they look like and what I can do. Dont want to try and fill them cause I need to keep car. Saw a kit made by Whiteline on Ebay,KDT905. These are made of polyurethane, and they claim that it lasts longer than the rubber bushings. What I would like to know is polyurethane more flexible than rubber ??? If they are more flexible I may be able to just dig the old rubber ones out leaving the steel insert in the crossmember and greese the polyurethane bushings and try pushing them in from the back side without droping crossmember or destroying the new bushings. I think the 2 bolts in the back of the differential unscrew out. Am I right ?? thanks
  9. Not the best news but I am glad to get a reply. Thanks Time to get out the WD40 and start spraying bolts.
  10. Called Subaru and they said $436.00 to do the job. Said they would have to drop the whole rear crossmember. I know there is got to be a way to do the job a lot cheeper. They are talking 5 hours labor, and thats without the wheel alinement. Somebody here had to replace these before. Ned some help. Are these pressed in or can I just pick the old ones out and replace them. thanks
  11. Well if you have an 01 Outback or other and you get a bonk at take off or turns this is what to look at. Almost feels like a rear end slip or skipping. I think this is also what may be setting off my VDC light. Once you get going noise is gone and car drives fine.
  12. Yes thats the ones. I have a pic of them but dont know how to add it on here. thanks
  13. 2001 Outback 3.0 VDC. Need some tips on how to replace the 2 top bushings on the rear of the differential. Mine are rotted and broke apart. Can feel the bonk on take offs and turns. Some pics would be great. I ordered the bushings today and would like to do the job Friday. thanks
  14. Just asking if anybody knows if there is a drain plug for the gas tank on a 97 Impreza. Have about a half tank of gas on a wreck I am pulling apart. I could not see a plug when I looked under the car. Could sure use the gas if I can get it out of there. thanks
  15. 2001 Outback wagon,automatic,3.0,VDC. I can feel a sound through the floor of car like a draging or slipping from the right rear wheel at a slow take off when turning left out into traffic. Could this be a bad rear cv or drive shaft, or rear axel slipping ?? Tires are not low, have not been under car yet to check anything else. Anyone here had this problem before ??? thanks
  16. Will is hurt engine to run cooling fan direct to battery till we get this fixed. Son needs car for work and it costs me too much in gas to run him back and forth. Please read my other cooling fan post for more info. thanks
  17. Here we go again. 95 Impreza 2.2 automatic. Had this problem once before about a year ago with the old engine. Cooling fan not coming on when car comes up to heat. Problem was fixed by replacing ECT. Problem is back again. This time I checked both cooling fans, ran fans direct to battery, both work. Checked all the fuse and they are good. Changed the ECT and still not working. Traded out relays from my 96 wagon that I know are good and still no fan. Connections to fans are clean. Someone here said before in a post that there is a relay on left drivers side under dash. If there is on can you tell me what this looks like. And also I did plug the 2 green wires together under dash with key on and fans do cycle on and off. What seems to be the problem ????? Will it hurt to run cooling fans direct so my son can use car for work till we get this problem fixed ??? thanks
  18. Did you read what I wrote you about speakers ?

  19. Dont know if I would buy for a rebuild, was just worried about my 2001 Outback cause I have power seat too. I know when it caught fire the man said he was working under the car and had the radio on. Funny thing was when he hooked back up the battery and turned the key the car started right up !!! I told the guy turn it off before it burns again. LOL Now he parked it far from the house. But thanks for the info.
  20. Today I looked at a 2003 Outback wagon, 2.5 automatic, that was in the paper for parts. Front drivers power seat and steering wheel were burned away. Most the interior smoke damaged. He said there was a recall on the power seat catching fire but I cant find one on any site. Anyone heard of a recall on power seats ????
  21. Tell ya how to get those front speakers going again. You cut 2 pices of 6 foot long speaker wire. Hook up to your radio front left and front right. I ran these down through the console where your ebrake is and out under passenger seat to behind the amp. Push seat up as far as it goes and unplug the long 14 pin plug from amp. You will see 2 red wires with a black stripe. First wire in the next slot is blue. That is your right front + door speakers. Under that is a white wire. Right front -. Next slot is a pink wire. That is your front left +. Under that is another white. Front left -. Hook them up without the amp and you now have front door speakers. Just dont hit the reds. They are live. Good luck

  22. Please make sure you put top of cd player back on before you test it, cover holds down those 2 shock pins I told you about. thanks
  23. Well here you go,maby this will help.I bought a McIntosh 6 cd player off Ebay that had the same problems. I got mine to work and read cds by cleaning the laser lens. My HD is the Pf-25201. 5 screws hold the top cover on. Before you remove top cover make sure you never turn radio upside down once cover is off. There are 2 pins that will fall out,my guess is these are shock pins so when you hit bumps the cds wont skip. Now the fun part, find the laser lens. I never saw one before so it took me some time. It looks like a small glass or plastic round eye. It sees the bottom of cd and thats how it reads it. And it is connected to an arm that slips under the cd when it plays. A clean Qtip and alcohol (not the kind you drink) will clean the dust off. Gary, dont shoot the air in there ! Lots of small springs inside ,you may make things worse. I bought a color coded Subaru wire adapter for hooking up aftermarket radios and pluged it into the back of mine and used a DC power supply box and could watck everything work inside the cd played. Its like an unbelivable robot. Do not stare at laser, can burn your eyes they say.Do not try to hook it up indors without an adapter. You will short it out. If your not sure of what your doing take it to a radio shop that you (trust). Type in online how to clean a lazer lens. Some sites have pics. Hope this helps. And Gary buddy, give some thought to that amp. I will can tell you by the end of the week what wires to use to get those front speakers going. Good luck !
